All bikes tranny ratios

8 posts in this topic

Is there a place I can find the tranmission ratios of most dirtbikes. I want to compare my 99 400f to a KTM 450exc or Husky TE450. Is there anyway I can find this or do I have just ask in all the forums?

Re: Specs...

The KTM site has nothing on it you may have to try the ktm forum and someone could look up thier manual. For the husky check your manual or find an online copy of that manual, again go the the husky forum and they will help.

Heres the yamahas the ktm 4 50 sxwould be very similar and the exc would be taller again.

Check the WR on yamaha for a comparison to the exc if no one can help.

http://www.yamaha-motor.com/product...aha_yz450f.aspx

and in the manual

The 2004 revs to 11000 rpm

The top speed you can get an approx by doing the maths

11000rpm

Primary reduction 2.818

Secondary reduction 3.429 with 48/14 sprockets

1st gear 1.929

2nd gear 1.563

3rd gear 1.278

4th gear 1.050

Tyre Diameter 19 110/90 stock, depends what your running

Then deduct 10% or so for slippage and knob distortion

For most setups its around 90-95mph

This will give you an approx top speed.

Any one who tells you top speed is less is a *****.

hey greyracer usually i agree with you, but last time i checked a KTM450 was a 450 and i was also sure a Husky 450 was a 450. But hey its day time here in Australia so it must be late night time over ther. I will excuse you for being tired. LOL.

I was going by:

...and so, I saw no reason to bring up the ratios on the YZ450. I could be tired, it was a long morning. But when I posted, it was about 11:00 am in Southern SoCal on a Monsoon Monday. If you'll forgive me for being tired, I'll forgive you for spelling tire with a "Y"

That's a British thing, you know.. :cry::cry:

I will forgive you. But you neednt forgive me as that is how it is spelt in the advanced parts of the western world.

You say tire we say tyre

you say specialize we say specialise

etc etc etc bla bla bla

I convert as much as I can bear back into olden day imperial language but every now and then some twenty first century language or heaven forbid metric numbers slip through to the keeper..

All the best.
