What gearing are you running on your XR650R (only R's please)

Mine is set up for the Baja Score races witha 15/47. I'm curious to what all the other piggy riders are running. Also if any of you piggy guru's know what the max m.p.h. comparison is between running a 15 or 14 tooth and a high 50 to a low 44 or so rear sprocket. :cry: Thinking about switching down to get more low end torque (because the piggy is not quite powerful enough :cry::cry::cry: ).

Im at 14 51 which is perfect most types of riding I do. Tight single track mountain trails to open desert. Im not after a land speed record and believe me your hauling if you wide open in fifth gear.

I am running the stock gearing 14/48 on stock but uncorked 650R which seems to work for pretty much all types of terrain, slow going to hauling down a wash. I rode your bike at the upper track at Carlsbad at that thing came on hard. I didn't realize you had such high gearing, I am surprised that it pulled like that. If you gear it down it will likely rip your arms off. Seriously though, I would say that putting a 14 on would be good, I am sure it would still be plenty fast on top and you get even more low end then you already have. Just be careful, make sure your chain is long enough cuz your loosing 1 tooth.

Yeah I'm going to put on a cam and get the edelbrock also. Both should help with overall performance. I'm just thinking about re-gearing once desert season closes so I can have more engine braking, and pop when I need it to loft the front wheel over big rocks and stuff when I'm riding tight trails. The 650's weight seems to be shifted forward so it's tougher to pop that front end up instantly when flying through tight tough terrain. :cry:

13/49 for the tight stuff and 15/48 for the dual sport road work.

13/50. Mostly single track and hill climbs. She still has plenty when I find a wide open space to let her stretch her legs :cry:

And wheelies are effortless in most gears, even with that crappy 606 on the rear :cry:

With the cam and pumper carb i run 13-50 at Hair Scrambles like Tecate or Laughlin.

SCORE or BITD its 15-47. That is also the best for me for d/s or just fun rides.

With the 680 kit i now run 15-45. It'll do 110mph with 10.5 gallons of fuel!

Do you have to take links out of your chain to run the 13/50 compared to the 15/47?

13-50 to 15 48 is the safe limit. You can just get it to 15-47. If you have a chain that stretches it might not work, but with the ERV2 it does.

It doesnt need wings to fly--the bike is a Dakar missile!!!

i run 14 - 48 for open desert riding and 13 - 48 for the trails and tighter stuff :cry: just got my new ironman sprockets today :cry:

I run 13/50 with the stock chain. I love it. Still does 80 mph.

Tried 15/48 but too tall for my taste for anything other than street or high speed non-technical dirt riding. Very happy with the stock gearing of 14/48 for run of the mill dual sport riding, but would go even lower for technical singletrack riding.
