Cracked fuel tank on WR

Does anyone know of a product that can seal a crack on my WR fuel tank? The crack is up high and doesn't leak unless I fill the tank full. I have heard of someone using a soldering iron to melt the crack together, of

course after draining the fuel and eliminating the vapors. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have tried the method you are referring to on a old 83 XR200 tank. I used a product called platic weld. You basically just melt the tank and melt the plastic rod that sits in the gun. Kinda like soldering it. If this is the method that you are referring to then this is the only thing I know or ever heard works.

p.s. I looks ugly when your done, but it did hold the gas after we were through with it.

Darin is right. The technique is called Plastic Welding. It is basically like Tig Welding, but it uses plastic. Consult your Yellow Pages. You may contact a Weld Shop, or even a MC shop. A Harley dealer near me does this.

Consider Pitching a bitch at your local Yamaha dealer. A friend had a tank crack near the filler cap on his YZ426 and got a warranty replacement. The really cool part was his warranty had expired. His dealer got the warranty replacement pushed through.

You have nothing to lose by trying.

I have a stock tank that I would be willing to sell. Email me at rspurling@nsm-seating.com if you're interested.
