2004 WR450 Jetting upgrade

4 posts in this topic

Ok Guys I finally bought the JD Kit for my bike today. I have a 2004 wr450, I just bought the JD Kit and the FMF power core 4 with the quite core insert. I would consider myself a decent wrench But I am not ashamed to admit that I know absolutely nothing about re-jetting a carb. Can I get some pointers from a few that have done this? I plan to be running from sea level to about 4000ft.

Oh yeah I will also be popping open the Air box as well.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Pull the carb out and rejet it completely!

start with 170 main, JD Blue clip#5 from the top, 48 pilot, 72 starter and #40 leak jet. This should be good for cooler weather between 1,000 and 4,000 feet.

Not to highjack the thread, but what exactly is the temperature cutoff between the blue and red needles (assuming an elevation of 2500 ft and no humidity)? 60 degrees?

I like to use blue up to 70 degrees at low altitudes

Red is for temps above 70 degrees at sea level. At 4,000. feet you may want to make the switch at 60 derees.
