I want your jetting & mod specs for a database...

I'd like to put together a small jetting database or spreadsheet of what jetting combinations work best for your bike. While it's easy to put together a jetting table that uses a correction factor to work from based on temperature, humidity & altitude, it doesn't take into account other changes such as how a new cam, pipe, etc, affects your bikes jetting. I'd like to put some real world data together and then once I get enough data, I'll post a summary of the results here sometime in the future. To participate, please fill in the following information to the left of the '=' sign in the order below to make it easier for me. Example data is enclosed in parenthees. If you ride in different places and change your jetting accordingly, please simply fill out this information for each situation. If you don't know the information for a particular field, then skip it. I will NOT be composing a list of email addresses or names to post or share. I'm only going to provide the 'generic information' below in hopes of providing a better reference for improving & simplifying our overall experience with the XR650R.

= Year of your XR650R (2000, 2001 or 2002)

= Approximate mileage on your bike (1,500 miles)

= Approx Elevation Range (0 - 2000 ft)

= Approx Temp (100 F)

= Approx Humidity (80% - Humidity isn't all that important)

= City or Name of Place & State where you mostly ride (Gorman, California)

= Country (USA, Germany, Holland, UK, etc.)

= Main Jet (175)

= Needle Jet (B53E)

= Clip Position (4th)

= Pilot Jet (68S)

= Pilot Screw (1.75 turns out)

= Competition carb insulator or modified carb insulator (Yes or No)

= Air Box Intake Snout & Restrictor Plate Removed? (Yes, No)

= HRC Competition Baffle or drilled out stock baffle (Yes, No)

= Aftermarket Air Filter (Yes, No, Brand)

= Aftermarket Header Pipe (Yes, No, Brand)

= Aftermarket Silencer (Yes, No, Brand, amount of discs, etc.)

= HRC Kit with cam, piston, etc. (Yes, No)

= Carburetor (Stock, Mikuni Pumper, Edlebrock, size, etc.)

= Fuel Brand if known (specific brand or whatever is available)

= Fuel Octane if known

= Spark Plug (stock or brand + model number)

= Ignition (stock or aftermarket brand used)

= 50 state bike (Yes or No) California's XR650R is different from the rest

= If you have a 50 state bike, is the Air Injection crud removed & capped?

= ACV Air Cutoff Valve disabled (Yes, No)

List any other data or mods that you think might be pertinent.

No respect for the L? ***! Cuz sooooo many people ride the R these days. I'm not TRYING to be an A-hole (comes easy) but at least include the L in the database is all I'm sayin. Sounds like I'm wasting keystrokes left and right here.

That, and in addition to being an eight year old thread, qadsan (unfortunately) hasn't posted on TT since '06.

It appears that you have to join the 650R Yahoo group(and get approved by the moderator) in order to access the group's attachments which, presumably, include qadsan's jetting database. I would have done that except for three things:

1.) I don't have a 650R,

2.) Accurately jetting a carb can rarely be done based on a lookup table, and

3.) Such a lookup table is greatly dependent on how well the contributors have jetted their own bikes.

I still feel a good database would allow others to have some comparison, not to mention a starting point.

Any spreadsheet gurus that want to take this up and put an Excel together where we could put up as a sticky? Of course it could be stipulated that one should only contribute if the feel their bike's run well with their current jetting.

It's useful to have information about what doesn't work well also.

I've owned my XR650L for nearly a year and still haven't had the carburetor out yet. I know it needs some changes and hopefully I'll get around to that soon. The bike backfires a lot on deceleration at higher engine speeds and tends to run rich and bog at elevations above about 1500 feet. Once I know what the carburetor is set to currently and attempt some fixes, I would expect the information might be useful to others.

Maybe after Thanksgiving I'll finally get my hands dirty with the bike. :excuseme:

I use excel a lot for my job so I could help put a spreadsheet together and would also be interested in the info myself. Let me know what you want and I'll make it happen.

Oh great. All we need now is to get this post started back up again. I'm currently out of state for the next few months and away for my bike so I can't be the first specs to start this back up.
