1987 600XR OIL LEVEL

4 posts in this topic

It takes 2 litres per oil change 2.6 after a rebuild or removing a side case if you let the oil run out. The dip stick is on the bottom of the fill hole cap just behind the steering stem.

You are also supposed to start it up and let it idle for a minute or two before checking the level. I have an owner's manual for an '87 and looked up that and the capacity when I changed the oil a few days ago.

The manual says a min or 2 ,but i've found that it has to be run way longer than that.Check it after two minutes, then ride it and check it after 15-20 min.It will be way higher up the dipstick.
