Gear reduction ratios

I'm about ready to gear my yz400 down a bit to make it a bit more trail friendly. I'm currently running stock gearing at 14/49 which translates to a ratio of 3.5 Now, is it generally better to increase the size of the rear sprocket, or does decreasing the drive sprocket work as effective? If I go with a smaller drive at 13/49, my ratio would be 3.77..whereas if I go with a 14/51, my ratio would be 3.64. Just looking for some opinons.
