this bike has only around 1500 miles on it and has been garage kept. the reason for such low miles was 2nd gear dogs sheared and it sat for some time. it has a new 2nd gear kit now and runs perfectly. all stock and all original! i sold this bike to the fella that fixed it and he can't keep it(back injury)asking 1500 neg. the bike is in western nc near ashville.

come on this thing is a classic! i'm pretty sure its basic design never changed until the 90's so in realty it's not that old.

My dad bought one of those brand new in 85. He rode it for 5 min before second gear went out. Then he had it fixed and rode another 2 min before it went out again. He had the bike for 6 months before he actually got to take it for a ride. That said the third time was a charm after the third fix he rode the hell out of it for 6 years and never had any more problems. They did do a little bit of suspension work to the xrs in the late 80's but an 85 would be just about the same all the way up to 92 or 93 somewhere in there. he has an89 now and says it is not much diff from the 85. should be a good bike for someone.

do you think the newer replacement parts are any better? it came with third gear in the kit also so maybe they fingered it out! runs great now, probably has about 200 mi. since fixed and no noise just giddyup.

That is what the problem on the first fix was. It was still weak. by the time he fixed it the second time they had fixed the weakness issue.
