motorcycle trivia

that is funny you mentioned that. YES it did run backwards once. I was on a hill and rolled back and POOOFFF the rear tire started turning backwards. At the time I had no idea what was going on so I just turned it off and restarted it and it was fine.

are you talking about the reed valves? or answering the last trivia question? did your dt 360 engine ever run backwards? still looking for answer on yellow bike question.

O.K. so the dt 360 would run backwards, i saw a mini enduro run backwards as well. this could be a feature exclusive to yamahas only! Back to the last question on the motorcycle trivia. In Bruce Browns film on any sunday when the desert racer set a signal fire with his yz what size was it?

Don't know that one.

Running backwards was not uncommon. My 1979 Husky 0R250 would start and run backwards. It sucked, especially when you were starting out on a hill.

Well the last question was so easy no one cared or knew it. Ill try another. really easy. what was the first liquid cooled bike to come over from japan?

 In what year did honda have a reed block {reed valves} in a xr 500 ? :awww:

REED VALVE ASSEMBLY

XR500

The xr 500r has a power reed valve assembly in the intake port of the cylinder head. The reed valve helps the engine to achieve higher torque in the low to medium engine speed range. On the 4-stroke engine, part of the fuel/air mixture from the carburetor is forced back into the intake port and manifold during low to medium engine speed. This occurs because the fuel/air mixture enters the cylinder at a low velocity and the piston is trying to push it back before the intake valve has closed completely. The reed valve is a one-way valve, It allows the fuel/air mixture to go past the reed valve into the combustion chamber. The reed valve prevents the fuel/air mixture from reversing its flow, thus keeping more of the furl/air mixture in the combustion chamber to be burned. 1979-1982 500cc engines pages 88 and 89 clymer #m339

Dirt or Street? My first dirt bike was a 1981 Yamaha yz125 and had water cooled engine...the radiator was behind the number plate and had some pretty interesting plumbing actually part of the triple clamps! My guess for a street bike would be 1978 Honda CX500

YZ465?

The YZ 465 was not a water cooled machine. Even the 490's were still air cooled.

All of the 1981 125's and 250's were liquid cooled. The 1981 YZ-H had the old style monoshock with the new radiator behind the number plate. That setup lasted one year only.

Not sure if this is a trick question or not... I would guess the first liquid cooled "non motocross" bike was a Gold Wing. As for motocrossers, everything in 1981 had a radiator. The best of them all were the RM's. Mark "The Bomber" Barnett cleaned up on his works RM 125 that year.

I will guess that Brandonw answered the yamaha question on the signal fire correctly. The 465 was the answer, these bikes where fast as any yz ever made with its 5 speed gearbox they would blaze on the big end. The question on the first water cooled bike from japan goes to the 71 gt 750 suzuki, as for dirt the yz 125 very well could have been first dirt liquid cooled, ill have to investigate. next ???

My first post

In the original, On any Sunday by Bruce Brown, the Motorcycle was a Husquarvana that burned. The second On Any Sunday movie was a Yamaha. Do I win a prize??

(03 wr 450) Next question is from one of the fisrt m/c mania shows on discovery channel, when Jesse James was headed to sturgis his el diablo breaks down and they fix it behind the e-z mart what happened ?

They put the bike in a trailer and drove it there?

I am talking about the bike they fixed, behind the e-z mart, he rode that bad boy on in to sturgis. What was broke on this bike?

That was so simple, even patrick billet heads have flaws maybe they should come from patrick w/helicoils installed. Next question is for the Bob Hannah fans/ Go yellow bikes! When Bod defeated Roger Decoster for the first time what track were they at?

Your close, if youll answer it correctly ill proceed. It will be another chopper question thou. and a hard one at that.

Ok, based on that, I will go with Unadilla.
