WR on the track after seat and tank mod

31 posts in this topic

I will be soon doing the YZ seat and tank mod along with putting a YZ rear fender on it. How will it do if I take it to the track? It is pretty much bone stock other than the free mods and this stuff. I have had it on the track already with current tank and seat. Seems to do ok, but will be nice to see the diff with YZ tank and seat.

Also, gonna do a H.S. soon. Should I do it with the stock WR tank or the YZ tank?

thanks

Depends if you want to make a pit stop for gas or not. The WR tank will get you 45 miles in a HS, while the YZ tank is alot less. Not sure exactly, I would guess about 30-35 miles.

I did the change on my WR and was suprised how much more nimble it made the bike feel. It "feels" 20 lbs lighter.

45 miles on a WR Tank? I'm WFO everywhere and I still get at least 70 miles out of my WR Tank.

I think he's referring to handling more than gas mileage. It will handle a lot better. Pull the forks up 10mm or so in the triple clamps and the steering will be night and day compared to the stock bike with WR Tank/seat.

When I bought my 98 wr the dealer recommended insalling yz tank/seat, 2 months later I had one. Best thing you can do, better than any other mod IMO.

Riding only in tight single track I can usually get 50km before having to go on reserve. During an enduro I'll just keep it on reserve with no problem making it to a gas stop.

Thanks guys. the stuff should be here in a few day. Can't wait to get it all on. And I will also do the adj too to see how it does. Man this thing is gonna feel like a new bike!

And for the H.S. I was concerned about the mileage but more concerned about the handling and it feeling lighter. So I would rather just fill up if I have too after hearing ya'lls comments.

thanks

How many miles is the typical hare scramble?

And how do ya'll think the WR with the YZ tank/seat conversion will do on a MX track?

I think it'd be like a Wr426 with a change of ergos in the pelvic area.

At Durhamtown? I saw the post about it somewhere. I think I am going to try and make it. I am only about an hour and a half from there so I don't see why I could not make it. When is it again? It would sure be cool to meet some guys from here.

I am actually going to be at Durhamtown on July 2nd also.

Southeast Regional TT Ride

Looks to be the 22nd-23rd of August. Some are staying longer, though.

Sorry for going off topic guys. Hope ya understand.

Cool. I will take a look at that! I can probably at least make it out on the 22nd. You gonna be there?

It does okay but still feels heavy. The stock WR exhaust is a boat anchor.

The tank and seat make it handle so much better and you can get a lot farther forward on the bike. Did you buy a stock YZ tank or an aftermarket one the same size as a stocker? I have the IMS 3.3 gallon YZ tank and it moves you nearly 4" farther forward on the bike.

It is a used OEM YZ tank. I can't wait to see what the difference is. I thought about the exhaust. But for now gonna keep the stock on there. Trying not to spend too much $$$

Good luck.

I've contemplated a change of ergos for the drz as well, probably going to be my next mod. Darn seat the way it is slopes BACKWARD.

But I wonder how much difference it will really make in my riding performance.

Yeh.. Just wait 'till you start doing stuff to the engine and putting on go-fast stuff. Then, you're screwed.
