WR valve adjustment

im about to buy a 04 WR450F and i was wondering if anyone can share experience of valve adjustment? i’ve been told that it is not an easy screw adjustment like the KTM, but i presume the advantage of the cam straight onto the valve is weight saving? is the shim adjustment method very time consuming and are special tools needed? how often does this procedure need to happen for a fairly hard ridden bike? i have sound mechanical experience so i don’t see this as a problem but would be very interested to hear from people that do this maintenance themselves. any comments would be great.

from the 250F FAQ index page,

find this link,

(also follow the links on the bottom of that page)

the adjustment process is the same for the 400F/426F/450F.

2003 WR450 2600+ miles. Have checked valve clearance 4 times. last at 2200 miles and they are still in spec. Hope this helps.
