Soot In carb

2 posts in this topic

My friend has a 2002 WR426 that has been fouling plugs. He pulled the carb off and at the top of the carb above the slide he found a sticky sooty film. What might cause this?

Maybe the intake valves are too tight causing them to not fully close and causing blowby/exhaust to exit through the intake and exhaust. :)

One way you can test this is to take the carb off and slowly turn the engine over with your hand over the intake manifold to see if the engine creates suction or if it blows air against your hand or both.

It might be worth checking the valve clearances though.
