$250 CR250 1995 Supermoto build

Recommended Posts

I'm new here, thought i'd show you my bike!

I bought it last year for €250, which is an absolute steal! The bike is in epic condition, all original plastic pieces are there, and no shitty replacement parts. Also got 2 brand new genuine honda radiators on it. The previous owner had just rebuild the engine ( piston, cranck, bearings, gears ) and the front suspension. Only thing he didn't care about are the looks.

So i've always wanted a street legal 2 stroke SM. This not being a CR500 but it's the next best thing. I love steel CR's since my first bike was a highly modified CR125 1996. I've also owned a KX250 and YZ125 but didn't like them as i did the honda's.

I've rebuild the bike from the ground up, but i'm not going to show all the basic rebuild pics.

Here's what i did so far.

Bought some wheels and fatbar:thumbup:
I believe these are for CR(F)s with the bigger axles. The rear hub required a 25mm axle, so a made an aluminium adapter on the lathe. 20mm ID 25mm OD.
Spacers didn't even need modification.

Ordered these graphics. Think i will order some extra radiator plastics as want to keep the original ones with the purple seat intact.

"new" rear shock. The one that is now in the bike is not 2way adjustable.

( if you watch closely, you see a missing brake lever.. Yea i crashed the bike the first ride :$)

Now the focus is on getting a plate on it, as well as some lights. Oh and a 320mm brake setup.

Please share your thoughts of this bike with me! What should I do next?

Total spend €1015. Remember everything on the bike is as new.

I'm currently negotiating a complete seat, with black/red seat cover. I want to keep the purple seat en radiator plastics as a set so i can put it back sometime. ( i quite like the 90's look ).

The frame has been coated not too long ago, yes it has some marks on it but it's in very good condition. I'll coat it when the metal on the underside comes through.

Does anyone have recommendations regarding the gearing for road use? I'm thinking 15/42 sprockets or so? Maybe retrofit an enduro gearbox with longer gears if i can find one? I saw one for sale not too long ago, but didn't jump on it since i had no plans to supermoto it yet.

Finally, I found some orignal CR250 enduro plates for it! This means i'm getting close to riding it on the street ?
Next step is to get some lights on the bike and to get my licensce.. :D

Yesterday, I fitted a new gearing combo, 15-45. Hope this will do. I can swap out the front sprocket for a 14 teeth if the gearing proves too long.
The rear sprocket is also steel instead of aluminum. In the past I have experienced that steel sprocket last much longer.

Fitted my other rear shock which is high-low adjustable, so i can tune the suspension a little better.

I also orderd this 320mm brake kit from Aliexpress. At first I wanted to buy a genuine braking or motomaster brake disc, but they are about €225.
This rotor cost me € 90 including an adapter for the original caliper. At first i doubted the quality of the rotor, but i figured all chinese bikes are fitted with chinese rotors that might even come out of the same factory..  So i'm very interested to see how this holds up.

nice build!  Me and my brother did a similar build on an 84 xr500, we call it the 'pig'.  from an aestehtics standpoint I would look into the cyrca supermoto style front fenders and maybe lower the  suspension at each end an inch or inch and half

Thanks guys! So a little update. I received the front rotor and adapter, and as expected the adapter doesn't fit. It's for the 2004+ Cr(f) models, but the seller ensured me that it would fit. I could modify the adapter to fit but I will just sell it again and buy a genuine motomaster. The rotor is fine though, looks and feels very high quality. If you are looking for a cheap Supermoto brake kit for a 2004+ model, I recommend this kit.

Haven't been busy with the graphics yet, still looking for a seat cover. I will be focusing on getting the plate and lighting on it so that I can jump on when I get my license ?

After trying three different adapters, I found that an genuine motomaster caliper adapter works best. I also discovered that a Kawa adapter works if you take 5mm off of the rotor.

Total cost of this 320mm setup: $80

It now only needs some lights and then will be ready to go!
