Ltz 400 knocking

Ok I know it's not a drz but it's basically the same motor right? My buddy has a 2012 ltz 400 that he has owned since new, and it started engine knocking. The knock is only at idle and it still runs great but he took it to a mechanic and they split the cases and found that second gear was missing a tooth so he replaced it and it still knocks(only at idle). What's wierd is it happened as soon as he landed after jumping it. And help is appreciated

I don't think a missing tooth would cause a knock, test compression, also i would try A lightly heavier oil to see if the knock becomes less intense
