Breaking in new bike

Well I went and picked up my 17drz400sm today! Thought it was raining so I wasn't able to ride it yet. Anyway curious about the best way to break it in, manual says to keep it under half throttle for x amount of Time and what not, the sales person at the dealer was talking about a "hard break in" not really sure what the was and just curious, thanks!

Another question, just took the bike out and it seems as if there is some kind of noise only when the clutch is out, like a slapping noise? Maybe I'm just not ridding the bike correct yet and shifting too early, either way deffintly have to see what that's all about

They are noisy motors. It's probably nothing. A keen ear can hear the difference when the clutch is disengaged vs engaged. If you are that concerned about it, take it back to the dealership.

I also suggest checking out the DRZ400 section and reading through the FAQ's.
