Top speed on a WR?

9 posts in this topic

Picked up a 2002 WR426 a few months ago, having a ball with it. Stock gearing, but it can sure pick up the speed. I mostly ride on single tracks, gone on the pavement a few times just to have fun. Out of curiosity, does anyone know how fast she'd go if I rapped her out? The tires say they're only rated to go 80 so theres that... I have a slightly dinged front rim that likes to hop a bit at higher speeds so I dont quite have the balls to find out.

I had a WR426 sumo with 15/44 gearing and I'd ride freeway at 75-85 all the time. Fastest I had it was just north of 95 mph before I backed off

I ran 15-36 with DT tires and I estimate it would do 115+. About the same speed as a sv650. It had a hard time pulling that gearing between gears. Really race only.

is this with the throttle stop mod? My 2006 wr450f can only go 80mph. I have IRC gp-1s, and the stock 14-50 gearing. From what I can tell, it hasn't had anything done to it except a hmf exhaust put on

Somewhere about 80-90 is tops for a WR dirt bike. My built 450 Supermoto goes well over 100 mph. A fully super built YZ450 road race bike is somewhere around 125 + mph with a small faring. Estimating speed doesn't work too well considering wind and tire drag.

I had an 03. It had a yz cam and was uncorked. I went through picnic grounds on pikes peak at over 80. That was at 10000 ft and up hill. Stock gearing was probably around 90 for top end, but they have enough hp to go faster. Mine dynoed at 39hp on a superflow. A cr500 dynoed at 50 on the same dyno.

Stock gearing and standard knobbies (Michelin S-12s) on the WR426, with HotCams auto-decomp exhaust ,  WR timing, FMF Q, all free mods and I've topped at 83 mph on a dirt road.  Done this more than once over the years from 50deg to 90degF in Michigan, so altitude around 800ft.  Not sure if I had a MPH or 2 more, but I doubt it.  Verified using GPS and onboard wheel -magnet computer.
