Installing the wheel sensor for the Trail Tech computer inside shrink tubing.....

Ahh...I see, no changing out the brake line now.

Think that shrink tubing might eventually let you down where it runs through the brake line guide. Dirt will provide good abrasive media to cut through the shrink tubing. Will last for a while though.

It will last as long as it lasts.

 

It's not the 'high-temp solvent-resistant' version of shrink tubing, either, so....

 

500cc of silicone spray before every ride....

Added shrink tubing to the 'mini' seat' mount posts, so it would attach more tightly

Cut off the tops of the WR headlight mounting brackets

Trimmed the headlight bezel so the brake line can move more freely, and added a piece of split spoke wrap to further improve the movement

Reloacted the kill button inwards, as the harness is short, and it was being pulled too tightly

Cockpit is complete, including longer hand guard bracket bolts (stripped one out on the last ride in a fall), ARC clutch lever and perch (sooooo smooth....) and suspension tuning screw driver

Hey Krannie, do you have a part number by chance for the ARC DC-8 with the 25 mm lighter pull? CP-304 is the base part number, but the ARC site doesn't break out the details (short/long, composite/aluminum, type pull). It can be had for $45 less on Amazon than on the ARC site - where did you buy yours?

DC-8 Cluch perch, Assembly CP-304 (25mm), Short (lever), Smooth (lever texture finish)

 

Could not find that set up combo on amazon for $98 so I went direct for $125 and free shipping.

I kind of figured. Thanks a lot, I'll call them tomorrow.

The kickstand.

 

Oooooah the kickstand!  I had such a good plan of grafting the FX kickstand to the YZ footpeg bracket, but I measured only once and cut once, and.....I ended up with a gap....

So, I decided rather that to try and get a welder to comprehend the mulitiple plans, and make diagragms and stuff, that I would bolt the newly cut bracket to the frame.

I tapped the bracket, and put a 6mm bolt through the frame, through a metal spacer, and into the bracket.

It holds very tightly, and I think I could have gone up to an 8mm bolt no problem...and still can.

It turned out great, appears to be strong enough. The hardest part by far was re-installing the kickstand spring....

I'm going to get either the FX or WR. Hoping you (and anyone else) can help me choose. Either will get enough of a DS conversion (SICASS) so that I can reliably ride pavement from the Cke Elum WA house to dirt, which isn't much (~8 miles). So about 20 (or less) pavement, 40 gravel/dirt roads, 40 single track, trending to more (and more technical) single track.

I'm currently riding an XT250 to within (occasionally well past) its limits. The 450s appeal for all of the usual reasons, and they both happen to be lighter than the XT, which is important, because dirt naps.

I'm interested in good low RPM engine braking for steep descents. There are lots around here and they so stiles scare the s__t out of me.

Rest:

I am going to tip it over a lot, so durability is important. Don't care about cosmetic damage. (The XT has gone down at least 75 times since I bought it 2 months ago.)

I'd like to lower it a little bit, if that doesn't muck it up too badly. Sitting on the bike my toes barely touch, and I'd like a little bit more stability. But I *can* touch, so it's okay.

I weigh 192 and am losing weight, 5'10, if that matters to the discussion. Stumpy legs, long arms.

Single track here is a mix of:

woodsy tight turns with soft dirt & occasional tree falls and technical bits

highly exposed talc with loose shale (uuuuuuuuuugh)

some water crossings

Occasional quite steep bits

interesting read,...

I'll be fitting a 320 disk, (whenever)

had it on my 450RXV APE, and was really smooth..

also looking out for some serous protection (engine-wise)

and building a low exhaust..

 

but that's just my whishlist.... :rant:
