Kickstarter Noise

Hi Guys,

I've got some more noob questions for ya. My kickstarter is making a strange sound when I accelerate/rev the bike-it sounds like the kickstarter teeth and the shaft teeth aren't meshing possibly. It helps if I push down (clockwise) on the knurled horizontal part of the lever while revving the engine. I've attached some pictures, does anyone notice anything amiss? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the reply, Krannie. You read my mind- my next question was going to be "how do I fix this massive leak that I have at the pipe junction"! Should I just remove and inspect the kick axle assembly and kick idle gear per the manual? Any suggestions on how to get rid of that pesky exhaust leak that I definitely didn't just notice?

It looks like you have a YZ slip-on muffler attached to the stock WR header, which is a different size, hench the 'spacer'.

No way to know what is wrong with the kickstarter until you open it up and look.

The exhaust is a White Brothers E-Series that is obnoxiously loud...upon closer examination you're right there is a poorly made spacer there. Yikes. The wonders of 'previous owner' fixes never cease to amaze. I'll pull out the kickstarter mechanism in the next couple days and check everything out and report back. Thanks again Krannie.

UPDATE: Well I figured out the source of my problem. The kickstart stopper had split, and in the process took out a chunk of the case. I replaced the stopper, but am unsure what to do about the case. I've attached some pictures below. Any suggestions/comments are welcome. I'm hoping to get by without doing anything, but I don't like the look of things. Let me know what you guys think.

If it seems to still work with a new stopper, I wouldn't do anything to the case (other than flush oil/filter a few times thanks to all the crap that must be in it).

Thanks for the response, toten. I was able to get most of the aluminum that broke off (it was caught behind the stopper, luckily). I'll definitely flush it a few times though. I put some JB Weld to build it back up slightly, more for peace of mind than anything.

I'm finally getting the chance to go to the dunes in Oregon and cant decide weather I should run a 8 or 10 paddle tire on the back of my 81 YZ465 2stroke. Suggestions? Pros and cons for each? Thanks!

Hey all, let me get right to the point, basically for the past couple years I've had this bike, it hasn't been running right. It tends to start well, and has a decent amount of power for a 200+ lb kid on it, but once I attempt to hit the top of the power band, it tends to cough and sputter like it's choking. When I recently checked to carb to jet it, I realized ALL but one of the Jets are missing. I've checked the reed valves, they seem to be in great shape... However, today (it is a warm day) it ran great for a while, after topping off the oil and running with the choke half on, this bike also leaks oil, but I'm almost convinced that this is a jetting issue (being that they're missing)  at this point, but I've also never put a top end in this bike. Thanks for any help, I'd just like to get an opinion on what you guys think.   I know I'm all over the place btw, sorry for that

      I've currently got a 2016 yz250x. I love it but it's not road legal.
I've got my motorbike license and I need a bike to ride to work. If I'm going to drop a few k on another bike, I figure I might aswell get a road legal dirtbike so I can ride on the road during the week but also ride in the state forests on the weekend.
So my question is, what bike would suit my purpose better? The RMX or the WR? Or are there any other bikes I should be looking at? Here in australia theres about 20 times more wr's for sale then rmx's, and spare parts availabilty is easier for the wr cos they're so popular, so I'm leaning towards this, but I'm open to suggestions from others.
Regardless of which one I got, I'd get a supermoto wheelset for it so I could just swap wheelset instead of changing tires every weekend.
      Thanks in advance

Hey ThumperTalk. I'm new to the forum and I have some questions about a 2001 yz426 I found for sale. The guy wants $1500 but said he would work with me on the price a little. I know that's a pretty good deal. What I'm wondering is how long the motor will last me. All I'll be doing is trail riding and riding around on a farm. I have an rm125 which I love. I was looking around for an 06+ yz250, but I found this deal and I've always heard good things about the 426's. He said he recently did the valves and it has been a good reliable bike for him. So would this be a good bike for me? I just don't wanna get a 4 stroke and have to dump a ton of money into it. My 2 stroke has been bullet proof.
      Any help would be appreciated
