2013 yz450f valve cover gasket keeps ripping

Hey, my friend has a 2013 yz450f and his valve cover gaskets keeps ripping! He has replaced the gasket like 10 times already!! He bought it brand new! Does anyone know why they keep ripping? And how he can fix it???

Not sure how it is a problem unless installed incorrectly. It can be a bit challenging to get it on without pinching. Or is it blowing out? If that is the case the vent may be bkocked.

But it did it from brand new. He had to change the gasket at about 10 hours from brand new. It rips by the spark plug and then oil starts coming out of the weep hole every time! About every 8 hours of driving

The 2010 (the first year of the Gen3 engine) had a problem with this.  The gasket would tear from excessive compression in the area of the spark plug hole.  Both the cover and the gasket were revised.  You may possibly be using earlier gaskets.  The gasket is likely the more important of the two to replace. 

 

Be sure you are using the correct original bolts and washers/grommets to hold it down.  They are designed to tighten against the head and the amount they can clamp the gasket is limited.  Generic bolts will over tighten the cover on the gasket and crush it.

 

33D-11191-10-00 cover replaces the 33D-11191-00-00

 

33D-11193-01-00 gasket replaces the 33D-11193-00-00

He is getting the stock gaskets every time from Rocky Mountain. And using stock bolts and using a torque wrench and tightening them to what the manual says

I don't think those are actually OEM gaskets, unless it says Yamaha on the packaging...

That is his dirtbike. Those are the gaskets he has all used and the other picture is a picture of the gaskets that he buys

He gets the 33D-11193-01-00 gasket and he hasn't replaced the valve cover yet.

 

That's what he'll have to do next by the look of things.

 

After that he should fix his numbers.

What's do you mean by that?

Is there a big chance that buying a new valve cover will fix it?

Could it be a different problem?

If he installed those gaskets the same way he put the numbers on his front number plate and side panels then.....

He is the problem, not the gaskets or cover..lol

If you install the cover without the gasket and run the screws down, you'll see that the cover never gets tight against the head.  This gap is designed in to allow the bolts to be cinched down tight so they'll stay put, and limit the pressure applied to the gasket.  The early cover was too thick top to bottom, so it was altered.

 

I would say that the chances of a new cover fixing the issue are quite good.
