YZ400f Forks - Any good?

4 posts in this topic

I am in possession of a set of '98 YZ400f forks and I know I could rebuild them for about $70 but I don't know what the valving was like.  Since the outer dimensions are the same as my '01 YZ250, they could be put on the '01 IF they were some decent forks.  Is it worth the trouble to freshen them up and use with the OE valving?

They were essentially the same fork as your '01 has on it already, but valved and sprung for the heavier bike.  Rebuild and tinker with yours instead.

It would be a good set to do some experimenting with re-shimming on my own - If I only knew what I was doing.
