Righto so the much awaited new WR450f has arrived so show us what you got, the mods you have done, tips & tricks.

 

I got mine a few weeks back i plan on racing off-road with it but until the races come around I'm racing some MX on it and coming from a YZ450f its not that noticeable with the extra weight.

 

Mods i have done so far;

 

Remove the foam and kettle from the air box.

 

Full FMF /GYTR Ti muffler and SS header lets it breathe i didn't even bother to start it with that pee shooter on it.

 

Front and rear Excel wheels and hubs blue hubs and nipples black rims, I'm hard on wheels I don't even bother with stock wheels just throw them back on when i sell the bike and it looks good.

 

270mm GYTR/Braking front rotor its a really nice feel and the brakes are comparable to my 14 KTM450SXf

 

Kroozetune 30mm lowering link really smooth's out the rear end I'm still working on it tho but love it over the stocko.

 

GYTR high seat gives me better body position with the stock seat and the lowering link it felt really cramped.

 

GYTR sprockets 14/50 think I'll go a 15/50 so i can hold second longer doing MX 

 

Rear 112mm race sag and i cant remember clicker settings once it bedded in I'll send it off and get it tuned, its still not right now.

 

Obvioulsy removed all the speedo gear light etc. for doing MX.

 

Tip if you put a header on it you need to feed it in from the right side, have to take the guard off the starter motor so it fits then put hex head bolts back in to bolt it up as you can't get an allen key in there with the FMF header.

Looks great with those wheels! Mine is only derestricted with a YZ slip on, but my 17's should be here soon.  :rolleyes:

Made a few changes to mine.

 

GYTR FI upgrade and tuner

De-restricted

Twin Air filter

FMF Q4 Hex slip-on

Trail Tech Speedo

Pro Taper Bars

Acerbis plastic with YZ radiator covers

FX graphics

SAR dual sport kit

Changed gearing to 14/48 but still experimenting

 

The 16 is an awesome ride.

Man I love this bike. Just came off a 2-day ride in south Texas. I'm sore as hell, but I feel great! Bike is an absolute dream. Power for days. Elec start fires right up time after time. 

 

My ONLY complaint is that the seat is hard as a rock. 

 

Errbody be jealous! Even the KTM guys came sniffing around... Ha ha!

Where did you buy your wheels? That's awesome, by the way.

I've been thinking of converting my '11 over to super moto when I get either a FX or the new WR and was looking at motoxindustries - they are Warp 9 wheels though. Tough to beat Excel.

The KTM guys have been and will be sniffing around, they know Yamaha is killing it and is about to slaughter them in the next few years. If anybody has ridden a 2012-2015 and a 2016 would you kindly post your comparison in this thread? We've been looking for one and I don't really want to start a new thread yet.

I just heard that the rims bend real easy on them. Like I said I don't have experience with them that is what I was told from a couple friends and dealer ships around a my area. After the comments I never did any research on them. I could be completely wrong. Wish you luck with them!

Started off with this box....

Found out that there was some assembly required....

Had the dealer put her all together with the bits and pieces Yamaha thinks it should have....

Got it back to my place and shuffled around a few things so I could get the bike up on my lift table and start with the free mods.

Started with pulling the peashooter out of the exhaust. I don't bother with aftermarket pipes because stealth is important where I ride and pulling the peashooter opens up the exhaust but still keeps things around 90dB....

Now the exhaust gases can escape a little easier.....

While I was messing with the back of the bike I got rid of those fender reflectors before I impaled myself on them.

Next we moved to the front and pulled the seat and aixbox cover to access the airbox tea kettle.

Two plastic pins and a screw allows you to remove the rear section of the airbox for better access to the screws.

Pulled all the srews holding the screen and lifted out the screen & tea kettle....

The rivets holding the tea kettle to the screen are easily removed....

With the screen re-installed it was time to take a break for substance and refreshment.....

Once I wandered back out to the garage it was time to take care of the throttle stop. According to my sources at Yamaha Canada you don't need to bother with the YZ throttle stop, just remove the WR throttle stop and then seal off the hole. To remove the throttle stop you will need a Tamperproof T25 torx bit to fit the screw....

The proper torx bit and a 1/4 wrench made short work of getting the screw out...

A little time with my cutoff wheel and a touch up with the file got the screw ready to go back in. I shortened the throttle stop by 15mm or 1/2 of its length. Put all the plastic parts back on for now.

Just waiting on parts now. The Rekluse should be here very soon followed by the Cyra barkbusters.

Plan on placing an order with Enduro Engineering for the following:

  • Skidplate
  • Radiator Braces
  • Radiator Guards
  • Axle Pull Handles

You beat me to it! :) This is the first one i've seen in motard trim. Still using the stock rotor up front? What gearing are you currently using.?

Yes the rotor and the gearing is still stock. Have to wait a couple paychecks and that will change. I think I'm going to drop the rear sprocket to a 47 or 48, not for sure yet. I have been able to drive it a mile down to road. Going to get the plates today.

Nice. I have a 48t on mine, but i'll be going down to a 45t soon. You may be ok with the 17's and a 47/48t depending on how you ride. Any signs of chain rub with the 160 tire?

Also just make sure I have it right. Smaller sprocket = more top end and bigger sprocket= more low end

      Hello everyone, you wouldn't believe the brain dead mistake I made. So I installed my crank into the right side engine case on my 02 YZ426F last night. (Keyword Night) Then I proceeded to install the left side engine case onto the crank and trans with the Tusk Crank Installer. All is fine and dandy until I realized I didn't put any Yamabond on the case halves.  Now the left side case will not come back off the crank for the life of me. Note: The first time I split the cases the left side case came off without any hiccups. I am using the splitting tabs built into the case by the way. Does anyone have any tips? Also, why is the left side case being so stubborn this time? I hope I don't have to order a case splitter, those tabs saved me $70!

      Hey guys I was wondering what bike I should get I havnt rode since I was in 7th grade but I had a kx 85 so I was experienced with riding I could pin the bike on tracks so I'm not completely new to riding now I'm 6,2 190 I was contemplating what bike to get, should I go with a yz 125 or should I go with a yzf450, I would never sell the 450 prob have it forever thank you tell me your opinions plz!!

      Hey all, let me get right to the point, basically for the past couple years I've had this bike, it hasn't been running right. It tends to start well, and has a decent amount of power for a 200+ lb kid on it, but once I attempt to hit the top of the power band, it tends to cough and sputter like it's choking. When I recently checked to carb to jet it, I realized ALL but one of the Jets are missing. I've checked the reed valves, they seem to be in great shape... However, today (it is a warm day) it ran great for a while, after topping off the oil and running with the choke half on, this bike also leaks oil, but I'm almost convinced that this is a jetting issue (being that they're missing)  at this point, but I've also never put a top end in this bike. Thanks for any help, I'd just like to get an opinion on what you guys think.   I know I'm all over the place btw, sorry for that
