2014-2016 yamaha yz450f cornering/turning

So I just picked up a 2016 yz450f today and I'm seeing that people are still having issues with the cornering/turning on this generation of bike. I haven't had a chance to ride the bike and will not be riding it until next weekend so I can't give my review yet but I'm hoping I made the right choice. Now with that being said, are most of you guys happy with the overall cornering characteristics or are most of you having to mess with lowering links, triple clamps, lowered shocks, lowered radiators, engine relocation kits,etc to get this generation 2014-2016 bike to corner correctly ?

No need for extra parts, just balance fork height and sag right and you are good to go.

Older models you could use longer link to get better balance.

Thanks for responding dj78, I called Drd racing to see what they recommend and they said they are running the 22mm triple clamps and radiator lowering kit. They also recommended the engine relocation kit but said it is not a necessity like on the 2010-2013. They do not use a lowering link. I'm going mess with the fork height and sag and go from there.

Yea I have a few hours on the bike now. I replaced the front tire with a Dunlop Mx32 and I had Enzo revalve the suspension. I kept the stock springs for my weight, and had Enzo install a 2.5mm spacer in the shock which lowered the rear by approximately 7mm. From what I've been told running a spacer in the shock is similar to running a longer suspension linkage. I've been told many other suspension companies are recommending the spacer. Now with that being said I noticed a definite improvement in cornering since the revalve. It sticks much better at the entrance of corners than when it was stock. It still isn't the best cornering bike I've ever owned and I definitely wouldn't consider it a front steering bike but I'm not fighting it like when it was stock. I'm alot happier with the cornering and over all handling of the bike. Now even though its improved I might still try a 22mm clamp, mainly because we have two yz250fs and they both use the 22mm clamp and I can pull the clamps off of one of them to try it. I'm also going to buy the drd radiator lowering kit, not sure if I'll ever try the drd relocation kit. If your on the fence about buying a 16 yz450f don't worry its an awesome bike. Yea it took alittle dialing in for me but everyone's different.

Let me also add that I slid the forks up 5mm and the sag is currently at 105 which is what Enzo recommended. I'm going to try playing with the sag somemore.

Actually Enzo recommended 102mm sag not 105mm.

I found that the sag was best set at 95mm and the forks raised 6mm in the triple.  A set of MX32's and the biuke turned like my 250.

I'm by no means a suspension guy, but I've toyed around with my '16 YZ450F and find it to work best with me at 95mm and Forks showing 4mm to the cap.

I've been thinking of trying less sag. I had it at one point at 100mm before the revalve but since I've had the suspension revalved I've had it between 102- 105, but haven't gone back the other way. I'll try less sag next time I take it out. Edited by Edge316

I picked up a left over 15 , pulled forks up 6 mm, sag is at 105 , I cut subframe down  and lowered seat height about 15mm , turns like my 15 yz250f , power is crazy put a softer map in really happy with bike

My 14 450F turns almost as good as my YZ125! I have it set up with the PC lowering link, 105mm of sag and forks at the OEM Height. I also when to a 6.3 rear spring with the OEM fork springs ( I weight 225 lbs). I have no problems turning the bike in the tightest of inside lines. I notice no Yamaha front end push like my 2008 YZ450 had. Something to consider, is the bike is heavy and produces a very torquey bottom end hit which could lead to the front end feeling light and vague. I run a smoother map on the motor as well and I think that helps a lot! Overall, in my opinion, it's one of the best 450s out. Excellent suspension, fast RELIABLE motor, and it handles great ( straight line stability and cornering).

The YZ450FX has different basic geometry than does the YZ450.

We are told the frame and suspension lengths and travel are the same....so how does it differ...

From what I can tell the two bikes are nearly identical. The triple clamp offsets are the biggest difference , the fx overall length is slightly shorter, and the fx has a lower seat height....that's the only difference.

The FX uses the WR frame and different triples.  The differences are minor to the eye, but either bike is exceptionally sensitive to small changes, the YZ/F in particular.
