Who gives a &%$#@!

I finally got the FX out for its break in session today, which ended up turning it to one of those "let's hit that, and that over there, and that looks good I want to see how it does" kind of deals. Last week I swapped my fat ass Race-Tech springs out of my 12 YZ450f into the FX (they are dimensionally the same) and changed the rear sprocket up a tooth to a 51, so the FX is equal to how I had the 12 setup, minus the tires and a G2 throttle tamer, and I'm running a FMF Q4 hex on the FX vs a Factory 4.1 RCT on the 12.

I was beyond impressed with everything about this bike. The power delivery is smooth and tractor like. No off idle bark. I never got on it too hard but I could tell it had some major balls waiting to be unleashed. It felt like my 06 YZ450F but more crisp in response. This bike starts effortlessly in gear, cold, hot, whatever it doesn't matter. It doesn't seem to want stall very easily.

I have no complaints in the handling dept vs the 12. Even though it is heavier it doesn't feel like it when riding.

The suspension feels perfect to me. Way more plush on small rocks and roots than the 12, but not as divey as the WRs I've ridden. I jumped some water bars that I've done before on the 12 and it seemed to have about the exact same feeling as far as bottoming resistance goes.

Overall I feel like I finally caught that unicorn I've been chasing with all the big bore Yamahas I've had over the past 16 years.

If anybody is considering getting one I'd say do it.

What size springs did put in it and did effect the handling of the bike?

What are people paying otd for the 450fx. The dealer I went to in Reno wasn't budging at all on price. They wanted full msrp, prep fees, shipping, tax.....

Totally they wanted just over 10k

8700 OTD, excluding title/registration fees.

I can see them not not wanting to budge on price. Did you walk out?

Yeah I left, not worth to pay a dealer that much in fees to put handlebars and wheels on.

It's not really an OTD price if your not including all the charges....did you not have to pay those charges?

Total price was 8850 with the title fees.

Got mine today! ImageUploadedByThumper Talk1450583094.368762.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1450583110.376585.jpgImageUploadedByThumper Talk1450583118.879367.jpg

ok so i got a chance to take my bike up and down the street a few times to see what it feels like..

guys i know this is a crude comparason but for thoes of you who have been following my posts i had a 2013 WR-450 with redegreed cams which made a noticable improvement in performance.

this new YZ450FX is un-belivable! the performance is JUST LIKE A YZ 450F!!! tons of power it makes the old bike feel like a DE-tuned PIG!

this bike feels easily 30 lbs lighter than my old bike, and i think because the gas tank is more to the rear, (actually sitting on it) the front end is so much lighter!

keep in mind i live at 6500 feet ASL so everything up here is lacking for power.

but before my WR would easily pull the front tire off the ground in 1st and 2nd with nothing more than a blip of the throttle. 3rd you could wheelie but had to make an intentional effort while hitting the gas.

the YZ450FX im pulling wheelies in 3rd gear with no effort! not even hitting the gas fully about 1/2 throttle!

you guys at sea level i bet could do a 4th gear wheelie just as easy!

OMG i cannot wait to get it out on the trails!

i can see myself getting into a lot of trouble with this bike!

if you have a stock WR 450 you might as well be riding a yz250f by comparison as for power.

I can already tell that this bike will rip like a scalded cat! the kind of power that just keeps pouring on steam as the revs get bigger and never falls off. I cant wait to put my tuner on it and see what it has to offer with a few timing and fuel tweaks!

I would say if you have ridden the YZ250FX and liked it, you'll love the 450 big brother!

I want one.

I want one bad!!! Been telling my wife but I'm not expecting one under the tree. :(

Wow Bass Mechanic.  All that from rides up and down your street.  And no break-in procedure!  :)

lol i let it run and get up to operating temp, and i didn't ride it hard at all. just a blip here and there, not like i was riding wheelies for any length of time. i bet i didn't get it over 6k rpm

When it's in the bush is when the real test comes. Compared to a older WR model, that "amazing" advantage will become less so. The bike is considerably taller and that alone will make for some frustrating times...
