2014 450 3.7hrs Broken In?

Haven't had a new four stroke for ages, just checked the valves, all in the middle of spec.

In other peoples experience with the yz450 the first valve adjustment is always sometime after break in or have some bikes not needed adjustment at all in the first say 30 hours?

Just wondering how soon to check them again I suppose.

With this bike I may have bitten off more than I can chew as I am only c grade level rider but I am sure

Gonna have fun trying to tame the beast!

Rekluse ,mapping and flywheel ASAP I say!!

My other bike is a 300xc with rekluse core so it's best of both worlds now!!

(No more trying to ride the XC on the track)

You don't have to worry about valve adjustments so much with the Yamaha.

 

Ring seating is more important, but it's too late for that (first 15 min).

 

As soon as the bike gets noticably harder to start, adjust them again.

My 2014 has 170 hours on it now and the valves are still in spec.

 

What kind of maintenance schedule?  Oil/filter/interval?

 

Changed the piston or timing chain yet?

Always ran Amsoil and change it every 6-7 hours. I did a piston and timing chain at about 110 hours but everything looked perfect. Mostly just wanted to keep it fresh.

This is great news for me I have one in the garage with no hours on it. I'm waiting for next season so it's nice know how long the bike is going to last!

I'm nearing 120hrs. Haven't touched a thing...

On my '06, I changed the piston and one intake valve out at over 300 hours, honed the cylinder and done.  Piston should have come out a little earlier, but the bore was fine.

Arguably the toughest engines I've had since entering the 450 world in 2002 with the opposite of "tough engine": the beloved CRF450R.
