Oil recomendations 2011

5 posts in this topic

This has probably been asked before, but I did a search and couldn't find any info....

What oil is everyone running in their '10-'13 450's, and why would you recommend the oil you use?

I've been using yamalube, just wanting to know if there is anything better out there?

The two best that I have used and/or seen any lab test data on are Mobil1 Racing 4T and Amsoil Synthetic Motorcycle Oil (MCF).  Mobil 1 V-Twin or Amsoil MCV if you prefer a 50.

In general, oils actually blended for motorcycles, and even some others like Rotella that were not, have improved considerably in their ability to reatain their rated viscosity for a serviceable length of time when used in engines that share oil with a gearbox, so the field of really workable choices has opened up some over the past 10 years.

At one point, most of the Yamalube line fell short in that area, but Yamaha has changed vendors, and the word is that the new stuff is better.

Have you tried the Amsoil specific dirt bike oil?

Haven't tried that, but I see no reason why it wouldn't be at least as good as the MCF/MCV products, which are excellent.
