Making a '14 and up YZ450 lighter?

I'm debating a newer YZ vs '16 KTM 450. The KTM is $9300. I can get a '15 YZ for $6000. That's $33000 to do potential mods. Yeah I'm crazy and I already know this so need for bashing. A ti shock spring for $500, think seat foam for $300 and a used aftermarket exhaust on ebay for $500 for starters puts me at -5lbs. So the remaining budget is $2000. What to buy?

I just rode 15 Honda and it didn't feel any lighter than my Yamaha. Plus ktms vibrate like an 85 cr500

I called all kinds of dealers even out of state (nevada) and could only get about a $500 difference. Is it that they are just finds that you come across or am I missing something??

You would buy a $500 shock spring to save a 1lb, a $300 seat foam to save 500grams but skimp on a new exhaust? Bwhahahahaha

Please, just buy the KTM and save yourself the headache as you'll never make a KTM out of a YZF and vice versa...

Wasn't trying to build a hybrid. Both have +/-. Just looking for thoughts on making a YZ lighter. A ti spring for a YZ saves 1.5 btw. Not looking for bashing from a know it all j

As for spring weights, here is a reference. Slightly less then a pound in weight savings. And this is fact, not speculation...

You don't list which KTM 450, or the type of riding you plan on doing..

3300.00 is a huge chunk of cash, if you plan on MX primarily get the YZ450F hands down

and use the extra cash for any bling you want.. except estart

Cut the rubber coating off the brake lines like Bubba.  It's free.

Trying to reduce the weight of any reasonably well built MX bike by a significant amount these days is an extremely difficult task.  It used to be a lot simpler.  I made a project out of my '72 CZ 380, doing things like going to bike shops with an angler's scale and weighing handlebars, drilling dimples in the back sides of engine covers and backing plates, holes in brake shoes, etc. Got 22 pounds off of it, but that bike came with steel fenders and a 9 pound gas tank, too. 

 

Anything or combination of things that drops more than 5 pounds from a bike like a YZ450 is very probably going to be very expensive.

I hated the genuine yam Ti spring in my YZ250. Too much rising rate. So lack of control and traction. To replace it, I have a genuine quality KYB steel spring. Same 4.9 rating. But nice constant real rate. So a huge handling improvement with the stock linkage. And it's only around 200g heavier. KYB can make amazing steel springs if they want to.

Don't give that guy from Think a dime of your money. Ask Monk and me about that. Buy the Guts seat if you really think you need it. I have one for my YZ and it's hard as a rock. Saved 1lb though.

There isn't much seat to save weight on with the YZF.

The best weight savings I every heard was to not put a full tank of gas in the bike...Only put in the amount your going to use during that trip/practice.

Fill your tires up with helium......lol JK I read a thing on line that someone had done this to save weight and if I remember it didn't work out at all.
