Is there supposed to be Oil in the Stator area (baja designs cover) 2002 426

4 posts in this topic

Hi

My buddy just bought a 2002 yzf 426 and when we went to remove the stator cover we found that the whole inside area was soaked in motor oil.  Is this common?  If not where is the leak most likely coming from and do I have to split the cases to fix it? Also is there a downside to there being oil in there?

Thanks!!!

Shelby

Oil belongs there.  The top end oil drains directly into the area on it's way back down to the sump.

This is one reason that you will never see a YZF with a bad crank seal.  They don't have any.

In the words of Chevrolet engineer "Boss" Kettering, "Parts left out of an assembly cost nothing and cause no service problems."
