YZ450FX IS ON IT'S WAY

I just read an article about the new models that implies the 450F and FX have less offset triple clamps than the WR, different (lighter) hubs, and different forks (probably flexier for more compliance).

The 2016 YZ 450F have 25 MM offset clamps, correct??

Only question for me is, is the backwards motor and more YZ style suspension worth the few hundreds (possibly thousands) on a new 14-15 model WR?

 

If it were 6speeds, no question. Any day of the week but, now it's hard to choose over the inevitable savings of run out stock.

You may be able to find some real great deals soon on the '12-'15 models.  The suspension is very nice and it has the '10-'13 YZ250F frame that everyone raved about.  Will be interesting to hear about the differences in the motor.  I get the feeling the newer reversed 4-valve motor will be a little more hot rod than the 5-valve motor.  The newer YZ's seem to be the dragsters at the tracks.  Still, I love that 5-valve motor.

Better, the four valve backwards motor has now been around for five years. Very awsome powerful motor same reliable shim under the bucket valve design as the five valve and street bike motors.

A real new bike. Awsome to see that they used the design on the WR a real winner IMO. Big upgrade.

Agree.  I think this bike will have a little more top end than the 5 valve motor, but don't know if it will be able to have the same pull down low. I'm guessing it will be a better desert bike than the 12-15 WRs due to the power characteristics.  It makes a lot of sense for Yamaha to use the same platform for all of their bikes though.  I think the 4 valve YZ's have proven to be just as reliable so far.

I too am interested in hearing the differences.   I sold my 05 wr a few years ago and was thinking about getting the 2012 generation bike.  But the new bike has me intrigued, especially if it rides comparably to the KTM's.  

 

But then again, a lightweight, very nimble bike would be wasted on a spode like me.  I can hardly turn on my ktm 300 and I'm getting slower, not faster.  

 

I'm expecting a blowout of the current generation wr's , which I hear are very good bikes in their own right.

The best in Aus is $9500 and that cannot be road reg like a proper dealer bought unit for ~$14000
