41FCR on XRL no work

Recommended Posts

okay so today I put on my super-go-fast carb. Everything goes great except the throttle does not snap back (no return). Soooo I thought well maybe a little vacume (I know it doesn't work that way) would help.

But then it won't even fireup. It's got gas in the carb but thump!

Any clues?

Thanks

Yes this carb is L ready, it's from Sudco says right on the box XR650L. Gas is in the bowl but no thumb.

More importantly The throttle is not snapping back. I took it back apart cleaned and lubed everything. The carb closes on its own (no cables attached. I am sure it is something small that I am overlooking, that's why the experts here (thats you reading this)at TT will give me wisdom.... Right?

Sorry yes I meant vacuum, the wife is not here to help with my horrid spalleng.

As far as the carb not snapping shut - my bet is the routing of your cables.

It is amazing what a small change in cable position will make.

As far as the bike not starting, that carb has

an accelerator pump. If you took the carb off the bike and squirted raw fuel

into the intake tract it would bark.

The point is if the bike won't bark you have to look at the spark

or timing or whatever because something should be happening.

I have an FCR41 on my L and it runs great, and the throttle does snap right back. I found I couldn't use the cables in the Sudco kit though, I used the stock Honda cables.

The setup on my carb was pretty far off from where it is now, and I had trouble starting it with Sudco's setup. Since I have tweaked it, it starts even cold without giving it any throttle at all.

Here's the way it's set up now (I am at sea level)

Main jet..............#172

Needle................OCEMR

Needle clip...........5th position from top

Float level...........9mm

Slow air screw........1.0 turns out

Main air jet.........#200

Pilot jet.............#48

Idle mixture screw....2 turns out

Hey that's awesome info Thanks ?

I hope tomorrow to maybe swap back to the honda cables (pain) and give it a shot.

Does the bike start well when cold at say, 40 degreesF?

I'm in San Francisco. We don't do 40F very often. But yes, it starts easily, I might have to start it a couple times before it will idle though on cold mornings.
