Not enough top end?

Last fall I picked a 03 wr450 supermoto. The previous owner put a lot of money into it( rekluse cluch, big bore kit, hot cams, ext) the only problem is that it tops out at 45 mph with 15/48 gearing. Do you guys have any idea why its not going at least 70 mph?

You have a severe problem going on if you can only get to 45 mph.

 

I would not ride the bike until the motor is sorted out.

 

Are you sure the speedo is actually working?

Speedo read 45 and my phone said 47.

Do you have any idea what would cause this, or where I should start looking?

Frankly, you have not told us anything to go on.

 

Could be a dozen things.

 

You need a local professional to take a look at it if it isn't obvious to you what is wrong.

Yeh my bike is stock as a rock with 13/50 and isn't comfortable on 100ks

Is it possible the rekluse clutch is set up incorrectly and is slipping so much that it's stopping the bike from going any faster?

I could push it to 50 mph but it would be reving to the moon. The bike runs well and has plenty of power but it just goes though the gears too quick

Well I found the problem it was 100% rider error! I took it over to a guy who is an experienced rider and he got it to 77. I never knew how much you could rev these bikes out!

It takes a brave man to admit it and at least you posted the fix for others. When in doubt Gas it. ?

Between the smaller supermoto wheels and the short gearing it won't enjoy going very fast. If you're keeping the 17s on it I'd go for something like 14/45, maybe as low as 14/40 if you're doing much freeway (that's what I have and I might switch to 14/43).
