05 yz450 o-ring sizes

4 posts in this topic

So lately my 05 yz450 has been seeping oil outta the filter cover, haven't changed the orings yet does anybody know the size of them? This is my beater bike and runs 5w-20 penzoil take good care of it(well mechanically) but don't throw money at it. Just a practice bike. And the reason for asking is because it's caked in mud and too cold to wash it, so don't really want to rip apart. And also the nearest dealership is 300km away but john Deere has plenty of orings lol.

Actually found that john Deere stocks a thicker oring than stock which is ...

...A bad idea.  It's a good way to tilt the cover and cause a leak, overstress the ears on the cover so they bend or crack as the cover gets tightened, split the O-ring due to over-compression, or displace part of one of the rings into an oil passage and obstruct it.

Yup figured that one out trial and error, it completely filled that groove for it, leaked like a siv once it was running then started pouring out. Wound up cracking.
