Is it necessary to fit new cam chain tensioner at rebuild?

Hey there, Firstly, does the cam chain tensioner push against the cam chain guide? & is it really necessary to change it out in a rebuild if your replacing the guides? Cheers Andy.

I would say if there is wear. However sometimes they show no wear.

The tensioner does wear, and if you are replacing the guides and  chain, I would absolutely replace the tensioner.

The tensioner becomes 'sloppy' in it's housing, and can bind, and stop working.

Thanks Bill, I originally planned to change it out during my rebuild, & then decided to draw the line somewhere as to not go crazy & buy everything in case there's unforeseen problems but my gut & common sense would have won out over my stingey ass eventually, cheers guys

Yeah stingy is always a bad thing when it comes to top end and head rebuilds, I always say. Out loud.
