Yesterday, Tuesday, November 4th. Several inches of snow in the area on the weekend that has since fully melted in the sun exposed areas and ran into the valleys or not melted at all in the trees. 25 miles of ice, mud, snow and melted snow on tight un maintained single track with several long climbs and more slippery, snotty logs than I care to remember. 5,000 feet of elevation gain/loss.

When the ground freezes I'll swap on the studded tires and tackle it again.

Un maintained single track? So there are maintained single track. Does someone rake it for you?

Back to the thread. If I was riding track I would 100% go with the yz. I have the 14 WR and love it for the desert but track no way.

No we have cranes and we put rocks in a way that we can have a really epic trail ride through them. Also carry garden blowers to blow leaves and Sticks off our trail

Lol you have no idea. I'm sure the d37 race I'm doing this weekend and the national hate and hound I did 2 weeks ago are just to easy for your riding.

 But I can't help but notice that the only place you and some others on this forum are riding your stock bike is on roads.   Ironically, the WR450F was never designed to be a DS bike. 

I like how you half hazardly shoot your mouth off.  Most of the WR's on this forum see dirt only. Funny the WR was designed for DS in most of the world.

The WR is a great off road bike but there is only 4 reasons to get one over the YZ. 

 

1. Green sticker

 

2. Lights

 

3. Wide Ratio gearing

 

4. E start

 

 

For me it was the need for a great Green Sticker bike and the E-Start was a big plus. If the YZ was Green Sticker I would own it. And its very easy to tame down the YZ.

Race courses aren't single track !  Single track is un maintained trail.  Raw.  Not carved out by 100 bikes.  Not prepped by a race committee.  Not flagged.

What are you talking about the non-US version of the WR is the perfect dual sport bike.  You stated that the WR was not designed as a dual sport bike, where I have shown that you're wrong. And you go ahead and put a picture of the trail 70 nice job.

Just because I race doesn't mean I don't ride single track. And in races there's lots of singletrack through rocks. But we've had this pissing match before. Go drill some holes in the plastics or something.

I agree with everything you said above, more or less, but for every change you made on a WR, you would be making a change on the YZ.   So what are you gaining by buying the YZ ?  Nothing.

 

For me it came down to the powerband being right out of the box and not having to split the cases to change the gearset.  I wanted a wide ratio box and the WR had one.   Splitting the cases on a YZ is way more work and expense than anything and everything I've done to my bike.  The work I did on my bike is little more than tinkering.   Splitting cases is serious surgery.

 

And I doubt, without a whole bunch of messing around, that you could ever get a YZ to have the beautiful power that you can get from a WR with a simple muffler and cam swap.  Its perfect for woods and enduro, which is how I use mine.  Right bike for right application.   Tweaked to be even better.
