Let's talk Sprockets

You sure it isn't the chain slap coming from the chain slide that goes around the front of the swingarm?  Does your chain guide on top have play in it?  Put some thin weather stripping underneath it and see if that eliminates it.  I went with the T&M Designs chain slider and that solved my issue.  They are a much beefier design.

Yea I'm sure. It has a guard there with foam underneath. I ordered one of those yesterday. They have the yellow on closeout for $30. It's apparently the old design (they called after I ordered and explained) in the way it mounts. I am going to try and paint it black. I am sure the black paint won't stay where the chain rides I just hope it sticks to the rest of the plastic.

Does the guard have any slack in it?  Does it move up and down back by the attachment point?  Not to beat a dead horse but just want to make sure....

Thanks, No, it's doesn't move a bit. It looks to me that the previous owner did every mod and fixed every known problem, at least from all the research I've done, which is A LOT. There is foam under the guard and the guide doesn't budge.

 

I almost think the chugging is normal and just the way the bike is made. I can shift into 6th gear at 30 mph (not that you would want to) with my FZ1 and it's still smooth as glass. These big bore single cylinders can't do that. I remember my old TT did this but  not as bad, but it was geared as dirt so it was geared low. 

Another good option, if the OP hasn't purchased new chain and sprocket(s) yet is Primary Drive.

Well anyone wanting to know the outcome of my situation. The RAD cush hub/rim came today. Smooth as fooking glass! Doesn't matter what gear or RPM....what a game changer!

 

Expensive but I suppose it's worth it. Rides more like my FZ1 now.  :ride:

A cush hub made by RAD fixed the problem. If you need more info let me know as I am assuming people know what they are, but that may not be the case.

Yeah, I know what they but I can't believe someone would spend that kind of money to eliminate just the vibrating gremlin you were discussing.

There's more to it than that. The logic is it's also to help eliminate hard blows to the transmission while riding on the street as some have had 5th gear failures over the years. The RAD is expensive by itself but if you have the know how a person could lace it on themselves and it would only be the cost of the $550 hub. In my opinion $550 isn't that much more when your spending 3 to 7K on a bike anyway.
