2001 yz426 are they any good ?

Is the 426 all its cracked up too be compared to a 450 ? How does it compare with weight , power , overall performance ?

my friend had a 426 2000, it doesnt have auto comp so you have to time it urself when you start it pretty annoying, also it is pretty heavy and he had problem with the clutch which is a common problem on the 426 it will act like its on or off, but it can be fixed by buying a kit for cant remeber all what comes in the kit.

it depends on how much riding  you going to do, it is fine just for messing around on dirt roads or maybe a beginner on a motocross, i wouldnt go trail riding on it way to heavy and clumsy

I have a 2000 426 and love it. It doesn't seem that heavy. Guess it depends on what type of riding your gonna do.

I literally just picked up a 2000 model last night, so take this with a grain of salt.

I do not race at all, purely from a trail riding stance, this bike is super light in my experience. You can see my bikes I do/have owned in my sig and see why. It's all in retrospect of what your use is going to be and what you've ridden in the past. To me, it's light.. To others use to MX bikes, maybe it is a tad heavy. I feel like I could flick this thing around all day.

Power wise it is a huge difference. Plenty of power for anything you would need to do off road. Make sure to get an auto decomp cam.

I like mine it goes pretty fast, it's a mint 2001, about 50 hours on it. It has tons of power although it felt a bit less agile than the 09 rmz-450 i rode which is probably to be expected on a older bike. It isn't built for going slow I can tell that much and is quite stable at high speeds. If you plan on racing MX I might get something newer but if you just want to rip around it is perfect for that.

I have an 01' 426 that's street legal. It's a great bike. It is a little bit heavier than the newer MX bikes but it's not terrible. It is a bit top heavy imo. I have a FMF Powercore exhaust , K&N filter, smaller sprockets, etc and it flies. I plan on getting an auto cam but don't really mind it as it is except on really steep trails. If you decide to go with the 426 and find one at a good price you won't regret it.

i had a 2002 426 and didnt like it at all, it was very heavy and a prick to start even more so when it was hot but it had a ton of power, sold it and have a cr250 now best thing i ever done!

I ride a 2001 yz426f, and I think its one of the best bikes out there. it kind of gives you that 2 stroke feeling, and ive heard people say that its heavy, but i have no problem riding on the mx track, woods, ect.

i just hated riding it, if felt like a job riding the 426 i didnt enjoy it nor did i look forward to it now ive got a cr i love it... every one has their own opinions though

Yes I traded a 2000 wr 400 for a 2001 yzf 450.

I think the guy was afraid of it it has some balls even compared to my 13 the bike is in your face fast.

Here's one of each 01-13 there both animals just keep pulling I joke around and call them 3 stroked because there's not much low end just tap the clutch lever and sqeaze the tank with your legs and letter rip.

I also have two more 13S kxf450 and rmz 450 I love them all.

It would be hard to part with mine, fast an fun. Weight is anything for me. Thinking if picking up a new 450 this winter an keep the 426 for a cruiser lol

Whoever said the 426 would be good for a beginner rider doesn't know WTH they are talking about haha :banghead: . It's got some serious balls. Mine is a blast to ride! If you're riding desert or track its awesome but if you are riding more technical trails at slower speeds it will take some getting used to. I just ordered myself a 52T rear sprocket to gear it down a bit because it likes to stall at slow speeds on hill climbs or rock gardens (lots of clutch work). They also make an auto clutch for it (Rekluse) which would solve the slow speed stalling issue but they are pretty expensive. Also, all the people complaining on how hard they are to start don't listen to that either. It's a very simple process to start the bike and once you got it down it will start first or second kick everytime. It is a bit heavier then some of the new bikes but you won't feel it's weight while you are riding. Only time you may feel it is coming into a corner a bit too hot or picking it back up if you dump it. I would say if you found a good deal on one and are an experienced rider go for it, I love mine. :thumbsup:

looked at a 426, pretty difficult to start especially for a girl, SO I went with an 04 yz450, much easier to start, and easier to find parts and what not.

main problem with the 426's is that no one makes a fly wheel weight for it anymore. they are really difficult to ride in the tight stuff without one
