YZ Timing Help!!

Well I finally did it to my WR, I used Motoman notes and a little insight from EGO and changed my timing to YZ. It was pretty simple and think th average Joe can do it. Here is my new problem though... My bike starts just fine but now won't idle :) I still have the stock jetting & stock pin clip and have not touched these. I would like to hear from the ppl who have done this and has gotten there bikes to run well. Thanks in advanced :D

I did the yz timing myself on my '02 WR426. My bike started and idled right away. Look at my sig. for jetting to run. I have the EKP needle, not the stock needle.

1. Did you turn the idle setting knob to see if you can get it to idle? I would do that first. Then try leaning the fuel screw, 1/2 to 3/4 turn of the screw. Turn clockwise to lean.

My experience is that when you richen the fuel screw (counterclockwise), you usually have to turn in the idle setting knob (clockwise) to get the idle back up. So in your case, if you lean the fuel mixture, the idle should rise by itself. Lets us know how it works out. :)

I HAVE NO ADVICE AS TO YOUR BIKE NOT IDLING BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HERE IF YOU ROAD THE BIKE AND WHAT YOUR FOUND DIFFRENT WITH THE YZ TIMING?

I changed to YZ timing awhile back and am happy with it. More power mid to upper RPM's. Did not need to change the jetting or carb. settings. Other than the idle issue how does yours run? Its very easy to be one tooth off with either one or both cams.

I second your experience. No jetting change required for mine and I'd never change back. I think my bike runs better throughout the rpm range and smoother.

My bike seems to run ok, but does have more popping when I let off the gas. Let me make sure 1 thing before I ask any more ?'s about this. Looking @ the cams on the gear side, the cam I wanted to adjust is the cam on the left correct?

Yes it's the left cam. Popping on decel many times is a sign of a lean pilot circuit. You may want to try opening the pilot screw. If it's already more than 3 turns out put in a bigger pilot jet. The lean condition may not be as a result of the cam change. Could be due to colder air temp for instance. A leak in the exhaust either at the head or at the head pipe/muffler junction will also cause popping.
