Dunked in water 2012 WR - Steps to take?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Me and a friend went for a ride the other day and my bike tipped down into a large water crossing. Nothing too deep. Just enough to fill up the air box. It didnt appear that any got into the pipe but we drained what we could on the trail and got her home. Checked the oil today and its real milky so we went ahead and drained it and cleaned out the air box. Dealer is closed tomorrow so well be getting back into it on Monday. I was wondering besides doing a few oil changes to flush the water, is there anything else we need to do to get the bike back up and going? Thanks ahead of time!

Take the tank off:

Turn the bike upside down, take out the plug, and run the e start.

Turn the bike right side up.

Pour 1 oz of machine oil in the plug hole.

Run the e-start.

Put it back together with fresh oil and gas and fliters.

Run it for 3 min.

Check the oil color.

Change it no matter what.

Now go riding.

The number one issue is rust on the bearings. You want to get the water out as soon as possible, and displace any water droplets with oil, then replace the oil.
