Rear axle is stuck

Attempted to remove rear wheel for new tire and the axle wont come out. After working on it for 1/2 hr, I'm concluding that a bearing, maybe both are rusted to the axle shaft. With a number of carefully placed whacks with an 8 lb hammer it will only move about 1/16 inch. Its an 02 WR and the rear wheel has not been off the bike in 9 years. Any thoughts about whats next?

PlusGas and heat are your friends

spray the PlusGas into the bearings areas best you can

leave to soak overnight

repeat

use a blowlamp to warm the area up and continue with the brute force

be prepared to destroy your rear axle - should get one off ebay cheap enough

When it moves, bang it back the other way

Kept applying the Plugs gas

the more back and forth movement you can get the better

1/2hr is nothing - if after 10hrs you have still failed then cut it out out but this is tricky, or grind the head of the axle off, then you should be able remove the wheel (if you can spread the swingarm a bit), and have better access to pound on the axle remains to get it out

An engineering shop may be able to press it out, under a hydraulic press

also note you are most likely to need new bearing and seals as well as the axle if that has been mushroomed too much.

+1

Bearings and axle will be scrap, plus the oil seals that run on the wheel spacers if you have used heat
