What are WR 450S LIKE?

Hi guys

I currently own a yz 125 and i am mainly just using it for enduro and trails im not doing motocross or competing,

Im wondering about the WR 450 how does it go? is it a perfect bike for enduro and trail riding??

The main few reasons im wanting to buy a WR 450 is because i am over the cost of running a 2 stroke , love the bike but i cannot afford it anymore they rip through the fuel and the maintenance is horrific!

Plus its not really the perect bike for what i am doing other then it is very light which you wont have in a 4 stroke., also what is the maintenance like in the WR'S?

So what do you guys think? am i better off with the 2 stroke or get a WR ?

Yes it is a huge step up from a 125 but i have ridden many 450s before and its all about controlling the power. But i am still considering a 250

What do you guys think i should do?

And what are they WR'S like for enduro and trails and overall.

They are pretty much a perfect off road bike but coming from a YZ125 to a WR weight wise will be a chore.

And if you're thinking of switching from 2T to 4T due to maintenance costs, you are not making the right choice as for a given lifespan and "normal" repair schedule a 4T will will be quite a bit more expensive. Now with that said, the Yamaha 5 valve motor is one of the more robust four strokes out there and will last a long time if maintained, not abused (banging it off the rev limiter constantly) and in good shape to start with. You want a stone reliable 4T go Honda XR or even a TTR 250 Yamaha if you want to stay blue and just want to ride and not wrench. Any of the modern bikes are a maintence intensive setup compared to the old air cooled bikes.

I'm 40, have been riding dirt bikes since I was 4 and spent almost 12 years riding the perfect woods bike an 84 XR250. It's been replaced by several other great woods bikes, my 00 CR250 with full guards and a flywheel weight was a close second to perfect comes to mind. But overall my WR is a great do-it-all bike but 99.9% of the time a WR250 would have been as good or better. Unless you're mountain climbing or fire road blazing, a 250 will be lighter and faster through the woods and in an enduro.

But if you want a cheap bike to run that's a fun, all around bike I'd go 250 'crosser. They technically have about the same maintenance schedule as your 125 but because of the extra power and you won't rev them out as much are a lot easier on pistons and even gas in my experience. I used to do 2 seasons on a piston and rings in the CR; my old RM125 would feel weak after 15 hours or so.

don't get a 4stroke if you don't have the money to fix a smoker!!!

get a KDX200/220

the ultimate in cheap woods fun. seriously, you can ride anything on one of those for next to nothing in maintenence
