Weighed my 2012 WR450f

I decided to weigh the bikes I have in the garage to see how they measure up. I did not use the most scientific method...I rolled one time on the scale, got a reading, rolled onto other tire and got another reading. The sums are recorded below.

269LB 2012 WR450f with no mods - unknown quantity of fuel...probably about half full

239LB 2005 KDX200 with bark busters, skid plate , FMF gnarly pipe, dynaring autoclutch - fuel tank empty

238.5LB 2004 CRF250X with no mods - fuel tank empty

I did not record front/rear numbers individually but the rear was heavier on all the bikes.

Very Scientific, with all the unknown gas, oil, and stuff.... :thumbsdn::ride:

I didn't have time to drain the fuel on the WR while a friend was over helping me out. Still haven't checked to see what it will involve with the FI. I'll redo this with an empty tank when installing a larger fuel tank.

I'm not sure what unknown you are referring to with the oil. Thanks for posting!

I'm just giving you a hard time.

Realistically, no one rides with an empty tank, so if you put the same amount of gas in each tank, we have a real comparison.

Bottom line: all jap 450 enduro's are tanks. Don't care though, cause they handle better!

I'm skeptical of that 238.5lb on the 04 crf250x. Even with an empty tank, should be closer to 255 huh? Isn't that the same chassis as the 450x, just different motor?? Not trying to give you a hard time, it is just very surprising to me at 238.5lbs. Especially when the KDX200 is 239.

The 250X shares very little with the 450x.

The 250 X is smaller in all dimensions, using a different frame, swingarm, subframe, etc.

About the only things that share are the whole front end and everything attached to the triple clamps, but even the thickness of the fork tubes are different (thinner for more flex) than the 450.

Kind of like the 450R: it looks like the X came from the R, but very little of it does.

The two bikes were weighed empty since I happened to have drained the fuel out of them a few weeks ago just to get the older stuff out of them. I too was expecting the kdx to be the lightest.

If you add two gallons of fuel (6 pounds per gallon) to the 238.5 you get 250.5LB...not too far off from Honda 's claimed 253LB.

The measurement method used is not perfect but is at least a somewhat reasonable comparison between these three bikes. I now regret not checking the XR400R I recently sold.

My '06 WR450 with all of the protection products added, weighed upwards of 280+ pounds! Even if a 250f weighs nearly the same as the 450's, those 250f's feel substantially lighter while riding. That reciprocating weight has a huge effect on handling!!

All I care about is that my WR 450 feels light on the trail..... when I get to the truck and lift it up onto the stand, well, that's a different story ;)

If you add 12 pounds for the 2 gallon stock fuel tank wet weight is right where Yamaha claims. It is nice to see they are presenting honest numbers.

The WR is still lighter than the CRF450X, KLX450R.

It's just not fair to say they 'are heavy' when comparing them to the KTM's, cause the KTM's are just not as robust or rigid.

Interesting. I weighed my 2006WR450 the other day. Used 2 scales under each wheel and balanced the bike up. Read 60kgs front and 63kgs rear = 123kgs x 2.2 = 270.6lbs. Approx half tank fuel. Only extra's are hand guards - oh and a new rear tyre - suppose the extra rubber makes a wee difference compared to a run-off tyre.
