  1. Hey guys nice to see there are people still playing around with that old stuff. I also had problem with my 87 XL 600 R crank, and replaced it with a XR 600 crank that is 5mm longer, had to extend the cam chain, asked here for help, got it (thanks again Harris) and ended making a hole to the cylinder, to create a steady tension-er.. works fine.. I had already bought the 102,4 wiseco piston for xl and not the correct one (xr) so had to adjust the compression with a bigger bottom flange 4mm aluminium, to get a relaxed 9,08:1 with 1 mm deck clearance, and have a 660 cc engine.. 👍 16/39 works fine on highways but even off road in hills and paths no problem, if you respect the bike's age and do not ask it to transform to a CRF.. In terms of suspension i can only respect the guys from Ohlins that even their cheapest set is working magical and tuning is really transforming the handling. for road use the old xl 600 r is way more convenient than a XR, go get one ! Listen to the old grandmother
  2. I used a Wiseco 102,4mm piston that was not hard to find, rather hard to pay ..for it Regarding the cam chain, issue solved with an longer chain 122, that needed to cut some links. Actually I chose to go to a professional mechanic, as i didn't have the tool nor the experience to do it myself.
  3. Many thanks for your reply! I got a DID 122 and will try it . Fingers xrossed it will not need cutting, as i do not have the special tool
  4. Hi guys, I am reassembling an XL 600 R that will have a XR 600 R 80mm stroke crankshaft, that is 5mm more than the original XL has. I custom ordered , from a professional shop, a 4mm bottom cylinder gasket . After tightening to specific OEM torque 50Nm the cylinder bolts, there is a 1mm gap between piston and cylinder face, very close to the OEM static compression , (calculated to 9,08:1) The question is what to do with the cam chain that is short, so short that i cannot assembly the cam. Any suggestions much appreciated Thanks Hi guys,
