  3. '85 was known as having the most aggressive power but terrible suspension. Hard to ride fast. They started de-tuning them to make them smoother and faster. '87 was the last CR to get gold rims and saw the introduction of the long stroke engine, rear disc brake and cartridge forks which were considered the best fork on a CR until at least '96. '88 saw a colour change and close ratio transmission, '89 was the first 500 with the low pipe and new USD forks which were known to be harsh and a step backwards, in Australia if you complained to the Honda dealer about the harsh forks on your new '89 they would fit a Mugen valve kit free of charge! Monor updates with an extra clutch plate added and around '94 when they returned to the wide ratio transmission. Minor chassis changes and sprocket changes throughout the rest of the years with a suspension change around '96. Just buy the best one you can find, you will love it like a child, maybe it's an angry teenager but you will still love it anyway!
  4. This will only stop/help the kicker stay in or out, it won't stop the overall sloppy feel of a worn kicker. A trick I have used on a few worn kickers is to get some brass shim stock and cut a strip deep enough that it goes to the ball and feed it around the inside of the kicker leg. This will take a lot if not all of the excess play from the kicker and brass is a lot harder wearing than alloy.

  7. Economy wise it's hard to tell as i didn't start the day with a full tank of fuel. Speedo is not connected either. On my KTM300 I get about 110km from the 9.5L tank. Riding a mix of single and fire trail. Except with the WR250 I'm definitely revving the engine harder and spending longer on the power valve and its a 38mm carb. Temps were 33C yesterday it's the start of Autumn here so will be getting cooler( but not much for a while). When i checked the plug it was burning clean down at the insulator and the muffler tip was wet with no spooge. Overall I'm very happy with this combo for trail riding. I really dont think I'll bother playing with the Zook NE## needles as it's a pain having to remove the seat and tank and unbolt the brake reservoir every time to change needle/jets.
  8. Update so I rode the bike at a hilly grass track enduro loop today and was very impressed. It lugged good down low (It's no 300), transition onto the main was smooth and pulled strong all the way to the top and really screamed on the power valve. My young son was riding it as well, it's his second time on a full size bike and it was totally tractable in 3rd for him even with his lack of clutch skills. Very happy with this jetting combo ( will try a 178mj when i get one). The PWK has totally transformed this old bike. Who needs a power jet anyway! Lol
  9. Well I started the '98 WR250 up cold with the choke and clicked it off after 5 seconds, temp was 25C. It idled strong straight away. I let it warm up for 5 mins then took her for a spin up the road, it was smooth and linear all the way through the needle (N3EW #3) to the MJ (175) where it shreaked hard and clean when the PV opened. I almost feel that it could do with a 178/180 MJ. Might be safer with the bigger MJ. On the PJ it was nice and burbbley when being lugged around the back yard in 2nd gear trying to replicate a slow tight single track. I plugged the power jet hole with metal weld so I don't think I'm going back lol. Not having any electronics to work the solenoid makes it redundant anyway.
  10. That makes sense and I have a huge range of NE## needles from jetting the 300.
  11. I had previously used an NECJ needle in the PWK on the '98 but it was a bit too lean, which is why I'm trying the N3EW.
  12. Needle is on the third clip. Haven’t tested bike under full load yet.
