  1. We use that term downunder, as well. Answer - Someone who thinks this is an invitation. So much more could be said but it would, without doubt, get me into being 🙂 .. but yes, it does have different connotations.
  2. OK, OK I'll admit that this one is not that hard on the eye 🙂 ....... BUT sex on wheels it ain't
  3. "Fugly" is in the eye of the beholder! Personally, I love my DR but by no means would I ever call it "a nice looking bike". Damn, they must have a 1000 lil' folk with big ugly sticks in their hot lil' paws beating the living bejesus out those new DR650 critters before they leave the factory 'cos no matter what you do to them they're as butt ugly as a bike can get. Great for what they are, but nonetheless BUTT UGLY!
  4. All your points are well made and valid. Forgive a humble engineer that knows better but will always be accused of over-engineering. The fact that I have shitloads of stainless about and I have a mate that loves machining it doesn't help. We both get a kick out of a piece of stainless that has been whittled into something that looks like it belongs on a Zonda. What can I say .. Men being kids! I guess the answer to the age old question "Why?" is " Because I can." The rest of you take heed of woodsryders comments. Hopefully the drawings I supplied might be of some use.
  5. Thanks Lukas and BSR-1. I'll follow your suggestion next time I post a pic.
  6. And here are a couple of drawings to show where I'm headed. http://s705.photobucket.com/albums/ww57/macinoz/?action=view&current=DRZYoke-Modified.jpg http://s705.photobucket.com/albums/ww57/macinoz/?action=view&current=DRZYoke-OriginalDimensions.jpg Damn, I wish I could paste jpg's in to the body of my posts! Any help welcome.
  7. ...or we could do it this way! 😛
  8. Hey guys, I've just added a few shots with dimensions -> http://s705.photobucket.com/albums/ww57/macinoz/?action=view&current=DRZShockAdjsideM.jpg http://s705.photobucket.com/albums/ww57/macinoz/?action=view&current=DRZShocklinksideM.jpg I've also got a couple of Autocad drawings, which I'll post later, which lead me to believe that we can drill four holes, where woodsryder suggested above, and we should be OK. We (I?) use metric bolts at this end of the world so four M6 Allen bolts placed as close to the four corners of what's left, after we cut the useless (as in too close together to use the unmodified DR650 link and its wider bearing) existing tags off. I can't see how we would hit any oil galleries but I would still like to see one dissected. If someone doesn't do it soon mine will end up on the milling machine and then we'll all know if it works or not.
  9. Hey woodsryder, I really like the idea of bolting some plates on, and therefore all the goodness that comes with that idea. Have you had a chance to hack the spare yoke apart yet? I've got a full machine shop available but no spare yoke to see where to drill. We're counting, and waiting, on what you discover!🤣 And you're right - You can never have enough tools!
  10. ... and food for thought. Once you go that far though it would hardly be a dual sport bike .. unless you count terrorising pedestrians as one sport and terrorising other road users as another sport .
  11. Jeffs suggestion of sticking magnets inside the clutch cover is a damn good one. I spent a few years building 👍 NASCAR engines and we used to glue a bunch of them on the head, just below the valve springs, AND anywhere else oil was like likely to run over in great streams. I learnt that if everything is operating as it should there won't be much metal floating around BUT valve springs will shed their outer layer in tiny little shards. Those little shards need to be caught before they get into bearings or gears or between a piston skirt and cylinder wall because they'll start a process that may take a while to complete, BUT it WILL end pain. Use rare earth magnets (aka Neodymium magnets), which can be found in PC hard drives (but these are smallish) or go and buy some 3/8" (10mm) diameter ones, as they are not that expensive, mix yourself up a batch of Araldite and glue them into a clean spot that oil will flow over (i.e. the bottom of oval drain hole from the clutch housing to the sump and in the cylinder head below the valve springs!!😏) . Magnets are small $ and effort for BIG insurance.
  12. Milk, there's a stack of opinions out there but I notice that they almost always compare the new setup to the stocker, only. Let's face it, they're using a very low baseline ... that is - almost anything is better that the DR650 factory setup. My view, and experience, would send you to Bruno at futurevisionhid (you'll find him if you look) as he is a damn good operator that will give you good honest advice, product and price, based on years of experience. Then again you may only be interested in something that looks good and not really give a toss about great lighting. Or, you may want to fluff around trying a truckload of products to find exactly what you want. That's always fun but time consuming and expensive. There you go, my 2 cents worth.
  13. Melbourne ...close to the CBD almost 100% on the road ....and footpaths .... and ramps ....and stairs
  14. Hey Luushen, shame you had to splash yourself to get around to putting together that slick web site. I hope you're well on the mend. By the way, I think you've got my ex waving her puppies on there. 👍
  15. Tex, you've a sense of humour that should be bottled and sold for large amounts of gold bullion! BUT what renee said is absolutely correct. Nevertheless Talbert, go forth and spend endless amounts of your currency and time, and modify and ride the shit out of your DR ..... most of us have 👍
