OK. Here's a shot at the poll. I guess we could make this as detailed as possible, but I thought we'd keep it simple for now. I'm an engineer, not a statistician, so I'm sure this isn't real scientific, especially considering I wrote it in about 5 minutes! One case this won't capture is folks who had a failure 0-500 miles, and again after 500 miles. If you are one of those guys, just use the "Failed Twice > 500 Miles" option. I included the 04 in this just in case. Let's see what we get. :)

I meant to say I DIDN'T include 2004 WR450s. Sorry for the confusion. I'll just leave it since I can't edit the poll. I can only delete it and start over. :)

Looks pretty spread out so far. It would be interesting to somehow see where everybodys bike is as far as production number.

I did not know we had only 29 WR450 members on this forum? :) No more votes? :D

The data shows 42% (forty-two percent) of WR450's have had woodruff key failures. Yamaha remains silent. That is amazing. Maybe I'll trade mine for a CRF250X or R! I know Honda can design an electric start.

Dont be fast to jump to Honda's issues. The CRF has its own relibiltiy issues. None of them are perfect. :)

So it looks like were a lot safer if it hasn't happened after 500 miles

I have well over 1000 on mine so far, only got it in September so I'd be hoping it'd be fixed from the factory. Not sure exactly how far since my odometer bit the dust in the first little dump at 390km(250mi) and it's still stuck there :)

I'll have to get that fixed sometime... Cable bent and broke right where it goes into the front hub.

redo the poll and have a field to submit last 4 digits of the serial numbers...

One problem is that many of us lapped and loctighted our bikes on our own. I have one of the early bikes and so far with a lap and locktite it has held. But it could have failed early if I hadn't worked on it. It might have failed early if I hadn't done this fix.
