Saw this on craigslist, its not mine but for $100 its worth someone buying it and doing a lien sale or what ever to get a title for it. Or just use it as a track only bike

I was just comparing these welds to my 2013 YZ 450. They definitely look cleaner on the 2013. I've heard of this happening on the 2010 and 2011 models (not yet on the 2012, may have not been enough

My friend races quads ( steel frame) however his stock frames crack all the time. He tells me once you properly gusset the welds there is practically no chance in them breaking at all. Dont even worry

I may just be prejudice after james stewart, (notably the most talented rider of today) said he couldnt race the new 450's that yamaha put out. He went to suzuki for free without getting paid by the factory sponsership just so he wouldnt have to ride a bike that didnt feel like a dirt bike to him (10-12 yz450f.)

the only thing is that the 09's didnt crack frames did they? And i know for a fact after yamaha &%$#@!ed the ever loving shit out of their 450's by putting the motor in backwards thats when the frames went to shit and the frames became a different style.

One of the sillier things I've seen posted, overall. If you thought Stewart went to Suzuki for free, I have to tell you that's delusional. BTW, he crashed that one pretty hard, too, and more than once.

The engine isn't backwards, and as to the earlier frames cracking, yes they did. Still a rarity, just as with the '10+ models:

Ok I clearly exaggerated, Yamaha was just being revolutionary and balls to the wall with their new bikes. Nothing I said about them being shit was probably true, i guess I was just trying to be the odd man out just for the hell of it. You should read the article yourself. Stewart said it didn't work for him. As I've said repeatedly in these boards, bikes fit different people. I can't ride Hondas. I feel like I'm too far forward and am never comfortable. Could be that Stewart felt the same on the yz because if his size which he talked about in the article.

Millsaps did just fine on his. I'm sure we'll see results out if Brayton and Grant this year, as well as others.

Anyways. All of this has zero to do with the frames cracking. I've seen all sorts of frames crack since I started racing in the late 80s. No frame is bullet proof. I know pros with over 60 hours on their 2010+ yzs without any frame issues. I have seen pics but no one local has had a frame crack. Does that mean it isn't possible? Definitely not. But it is rare.

I noticed something on my frame that i see in common with that eBay frame that kind of bothers me and am curious if it is more common. If you are looking from the rear of bike, the right tab that the "pullrod" or link fits between has scuff/scratches/worn where the link rubs. I thought it was from something I assembled incorrect but after some head scratching I've reached the conclusion that it is pretty much idiot proof assembly. Even now, it is closer to the right than left. Does anyone else have this issue or know what causes it? It moves freely with shock rmoved so no binding. I first noticed at about 40 hrs but been riding ever since. I'm pretty anal about greasing, more than probably needed so im reminded every month when I disassemble and regrease of this issue. Any insight is appreciated!

Wow that's hammered. I wouldn't buy that based on the quality of the grip tape cutouts alone. Not to mention the swingarm bearing face or the fact that it has an "AMA Pro" sticker on it. What a POS.

Hey now my bike has an AMA pro sticker on it from 04 and it's an 03 and no problems here. The way I see it if it took them beating on it, I will never break it. So far true story. Maybe it is just not shiny enough for you. ?

Having my frame welded and should have it back soon. Hopefully it holds up. Will report if it does or not. And i tried to go through my local dealer and they said yamaha hadn't gotten back to them yet don't know what that means, but I am tried of waiting to ride my bike.

All brands can all years can break there frames not just Yamaha's I had a custon made CR500 I stuffed in to a CRF450X frame it was a very nice bike the Y and the cradle was made from 6061 T-6 Billet Aluminum.

The frame was annealed so the complete frame was put back in O state then the frame was put back the correct temper where needed the frame has diffrent tempers in diffrent ares so the frame can flex where needed so will handle the loads be stiff where it needed to be and flex where it needs to flex.

Sounds great but I read other did the same but after use the frames still broke mostly around the welds as you'r YZ frames are doing.

What I am saying you can prep the frame heat treat the frames ect but they still can break.

I riding a Steel framed bike now I just like them better my self the way they feel sure Aluminum is nie but I like the steel and if breaks just get the welder out and fix it steel has lot more give to it.

Besides on my CR500 the Aluminum frame would transmite all the vibrations though the frame I was alway tighening nuts and bolts up and the rear brake caliber banjo bolt keeped on backing out you find out when you went for the rear brake and you had no rear brakes.

Back in 1979 when I had my YZ250 it broke the frame around the steering head but they welded it up at the track and keeped on riding it. back then the Mono shock ran though a tube that was part of the steering head.

It dont matter what brand or year Aluminum steel they all can break.
