I did a bad thing yesterday and went into a local dealer and was staring at a 2012 450R....SOOOO
Please tell me what you think of the 2012 (I'm no pro but I've had an '03 and '07 450R so I'm familar with the brand) and what price you got OTD with.
ThanX,

I just bought a 12 last week.  I'm coming of a 2007 also.  Loved my 2007.  It was basically stock with FC suspension and a JE high compression piston.  Bike had great strong yet smooth power and the suspension was firm yet plush.

On the 2012, so far I did 1 day of breaking it in and 1 race.  First thing I noticed is the stock muffler is an absolute joke.  It is so clogged up and so quiet that the bike feels like a CRF230 play bike both sound and power wise.  And the computer mapping is ridiculously lean to match.  Stock, the power of the bike was pretty disappointing coming off my 07.  No bark or pull at all.  Seriously feels like there is a rag in the airbox.

So, I put a Yosh RS-4 slip-on on it.  That opened it up but really revealed just how lean the mapping is.  The bike will bog if you try to whack the throttle really fast and it just feels weak like it is starving for fuel.  In the race I got dropped on the start by guys I usually smoke no problem on my 07.

Now my ECM went off to Eddie Sisneros today to try to get the mapping to match the exhaust.  Everyone on here says it barks once you get the exhaust and the mapping.  I hope so.

Otherwise, the handling feels pretty good so far even though I have not changed any suspension settings.  It feels a little soft over all now that the suspension is breaking in.  I might be able to get away with a little more oil in the forks and a little more preload on the shock.  Have to tinker with it a while and see.

FGR01,
ThanX for the info. I too had an '07 (before that an '03) and did hear the same kinda info from some others about the power (I can live with the suspension). I know all the mfg's are getting beat up about fuel and noise (that's why everything from weedwackers to cars run ungodly lean) but those are the evironmental times we live in.
ThanX,
Don

I went from a 03 to a 12. My 03 had 12:5:1 piston and stage 2 hot cam only. That bike had a lot of grunt. They 12 doesnt have the grunt but i feel like its a smoother more controlable power. Just bought a FMF slip on and going to get my ecu remapped. The suspension was soft in the back for me, but i just did a few compression clicks and that helped. Im now looking into getting my suspension done. The 12 feels lighter to me and i can corner 100 times better. My old bike felt like it wanted to wash out all the time. With the 12 it feels planted and the smoother power def helps me a lot.
