Happened on a 2011 ktm 250 sxf
Yesterday after finishing up my last race of the day in Oatfield, CA. loading up my bike i noticed oil all over the fork lowers, saw the wipers, retainer clip, seals, washer and on one side one of the bushing came out to. When i bought it just over a year ago first thing i did was take it to a suspension guy who put in all new race tech valves. thats the only work i have had done to the suspension.

So i'm thinking i can ;

A) buy some fork oil and new brake pads, clean everthing thoroughly, check for any damage inside the uppers, seals or on the stanchions. Then put it back together. Thinking there might have been to much oil in it.

:thumbsup: Call the guy who last worked on it and see whether he's willing to work with me. Thing is he's about 800 miles away right now.

C) Take it to a shop and hope for good news and a bill not over $200.

Really hoping nothing got destroyed inside dont think i rode on it much since it broke
Appreciate any info you can give me, never seen this before.

So the retaining clip was not put in properly I assume. It was most likely put in and not seated into its race.

If that's the case, then you should be good to go. Maybe you bet something along the way, but I doubt it. You should check the lower though, make sure its round.

after one year of riding? should come off way earlier if that was the case.
On the other hand, it's not very likely that the clip comes off by its own.
Strange... :thinking:

The clip doesn't come off on its own. However, if it wasn't seated right to begin with, it might have just been a matter of time. I'd inspect the race very clearly and insure there is no damage to it or the c clip that holds it in place.

On my honda crf450 i used to do the fork seals myself, i understand its basically the same thing but i found a local suspension guy and because the circumstances are nothing ive seen before im going to let them inspect and reinstall the new seals on it. estimates about $160 so not to bad just hope it doesnt ever happen again.

Get yourself some synergy flex seals. I swear by them. I have used them on all my bikes with zero issues....no leaks....no air build up....you can remove them and reinstall them easy to install.
I also use there lower guide bushings. They are not like oem style. They seem to be holding up great....nice fit too.
I recently found a video on youtube. Type in synergyseals you will see the fork tube still pic.

Good luck
btw i also heard they have new wipers coming out.
