Did Ryan Dungey just prove that the rider is far more important a factor than the bike? Couldn't Dungey and Team DeCoster win an outdoor championship on any color bike?
He seems to have an amazing attitude and work ethic. It's great to see a nice guy win.

Sorry. Network broadcast just ended. Still on cable.

Should be no suprise. The only way Dungey could lose would be to fall, have his gas cap come off, and have to go to the pits during the race for more gas...wait...I take that back.

Congrats to Dungey, Decoster, there crew and KTM.  They all brought something to the table this year. It's really something when you consider they accomplished all this in one year. The bike didn't even exist a year ago. Here is to all the KTM haters  try the kool aide you'll like it!

Congrats to Ryan and KTM.  They did what they had to do.  Which in hind sight wasn't much.  With everyone out, I think it was forgone conclusion who would win the title.

This is coming from a Villopoto fan. I think if Villopoto and Dungey both stay healthy all the way through next season, Villopoto will win the SX championship and Dungey will win the outdoor championship. Congradulations to Ryan Dungey, he is a great champion!

I was thinking of it the other way around... if both were healthy I think RD will win indoors, RV out just based on riding styles. Both have the ability to and will win multiple championships in the future so its really a crap shoot.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ryan Dungey on his Championship season.  I only wish he and The Man were still with Suzuki, but that was Suzuki's stupidity.  Gooooo Dungey!!!!!

The other way to look at it is Dumgey is the only one who didnt crash himself out of contention.  Last man standing, though he broke a collar bone in practice.

Congratulations to Dungey, DeCoster, and the team.

It was a war of attrition this year.  IMO... Just a ho hum 450 mx series that was all but decided by the fourth round.  Dungey outlasted everyone and is the champ.  No asterisck needed.

Did Dungeys bike have a dry break gas cap?
After the last two seasons, i thought he would start running one.
I would have bet they would show up with a 1 gallon can with a half gallon in it.

Great season for Dungey and KTM!  Can't wait for SX next year with a stacked field of competitors.

You know when KTM started years ago people said "they will never make a main event"
When they made their first main event people said "they will never make a podium"
When they made their first podium people said "they will never win"
When they first won people said "hey will never win an AMA championship"
Now they won an AMA championship and people say "the rider is more important"

I agree that in MX the rider is the most important factor , but sometimes i ask myself what else must happen that people finally realize the KTMs are AT LEAST as good as the four japanese manufacturers.

No vilification for Dungey by the way, the guy is a true champion !

They have been "good enough" to win a championship for some time now. Just never had a champion in the saddle. Now that they do I expect KTM to take off with this and start racking up the #1 plates in the rig!

Reality!
He is the champ,  but with no healthy TC , RV,
CR or even a healthy JS it was his to lose.

Another Default Championship.

I dont buy it... Im not a huge RD fan but he earned it. You gotta be healthy and on the bike to win it. RD outlasted everyone else and you could say RD pressured JS into the mistake we all knew he would make.

There were still 39 other top riders in the world on the gate week in and week out.

The reality is that Dungey is the most consistant dirt bike rider since Carmichael.  He has earned this Championship and he is going to be on the podium in at the end of every championship he enters until he retires.
