Had a problem with my KLX where at about 1/4 to 1/2 throttle it would just fall off and backfire.  Runs like it isn't getting any gas.  I cleaned the carb, same thing.  We put new fuel, plug and had the local shop (great place, good mechs, have used them for years) clean the carb just to make sure I wasn't overlooking something.  They said the carb looks good, jetting is good for my elevation (around 5000), but it is still falling off and bogging and sputtering.  Could it be electrical or something?  Just getting a little frustrated.  Thanks

Was it running ok recently?  Have you made any changes ?  The symptoms sound the same as when the exhaust is unplugged and the air box cover is removed but without changing the carb jetting.........runs lean.

Haven't made any changes in a long time, only just over 100 miles on it since 2007 and 35 of those were today.  Ran good when I was in Kansas, but after I moved here, it sat for about 2 years and after we cleaned the carb, it was doing this.  I will probably bite the bullet and take it in to the dealer.  What jets do you think would be good for the 5000 foot elevation, with the snorkle and exhaust plug removed?  Any advice will be appreciated.  I plan on pulling the carb again and seeing what jetting is in there in a couple of days.  Just want to know what you guys think.  Thanks

Look at your plug. What does the insulator look like ? Black and sooty is too rich and whiter shade is too lean. If your main jet is a#128 go down to a #124. Then after running it around a bit look at your plug and it will guide you.

Thanks, changed the plug but forgot to even look at the core of it, DUH on me!  I still have it in my garage and will chack it later today after I get home.

You could have a vacuume leak between the carb and cylinder, check for cracks in the rubber, Clamps and bolts are tight on the head. Go Green

Well, been a while, but finally played with the jetting and got it running good.  Just rode it around the block, haven't hit the hills, might have to fine tune it when I do.

It was running lean, had a 117 main in it, ended up with a 132 main and moved the needle clip down one position moving the needle up.  Runs good, that was the problem, thanks for the advice, you hit it on the head.
