I've finally got round to uploading the pics of my engine after it blew up at the start of June.
No warning, just on the way to work and BOOOM!
I'm sure a few might have an idea as to why...
Oil and filter had been changed like 200 miles previous. We all know how important it is to keep up with oil changes
Engine was @ 8500 miles on the odo when it all went Pete Tong.
The piston has disintegrated and there was a valve that I found wedged between coolant hose and radiator.
Thankfully I've fitted a different lump and she's back on the road (thanks ebay!)

I guess it would be a short list for the parts that were not destroyed...

That's a LOT of damage.  Good to hear that you found another motor and it's back on the road

As terrible as it was to have it grenade on you like that, the worst part is it gave you no choice but to buy a new engine, minimal salvage parts....

That is the most completely destroyed engine I have ever seen.  Congratulations!

Glad you were able to score another one from eBay.

What are all the deposits on the piston skirt?  I don't think a valve dropping into the cylinder will do all that.  My WAG is that there was another failure in the crank or somewhere and the cams got out of time and the last few revs got the top end.  And the trans also?  What a bummer.  Hope E can shed some light on the sequence of failure that might have happened.  Is there a lesson here?

This is why every engine needs little cameras in it so we can see exactly what failed when it blew

Where is the piston skirt? i think all the deposits may be the actual piston/little end assorted components

Likely failure mode.  The primary nut came loose, lost timing with the cams, also lost timing with the counter balancer.  Piston hit valves.  Crankshaft hit balance shaft.  Kaboom.
